I needed something flexible, which paid minumumn wage. (4.50)
and the only available thing ive found in 5 months of looking is cold calling for frigging double glazing!!!
its so harsh - i had my first training session and the first thing your taught is 'never apologise'. then you have to pepper the poor unsuspecting listenener (or 'victim') with as manay questions as possible to stun them into getting someone to go round and give them a quote for new windows.
i feel so bad, its aganist everything i beleive in (especially as most of the time the people who answer are sweet little old ladies who are so deaf you have to shout down the phone at them).
it sucks, but i need the money. im going to take home 50 a week from this, so ive got to do it, it means i can get a new synth. its just going to be paid with by my dirty money ive earned bludgeoning folks into getting windows they dont need.
shamelful.

You have to earn money.
So why don't sell new stuff to old people.
Now they at least can tell there grandchildren what beautiful new windows they have.
And they can say no if they don't want it right.
So it's their own free choice.
Don't worry so much, you better think of that new synth you're buying from the money.

Anyway - look at it this way. No job is permanent. At least for now you'll be making some money and hopefully soon, a new opportunity will come your way. It always does!

Get yourself a job at a supermarch, it's not a glamourous thing, but you get to meet lots of people and make some great mates. More mates = more pissups, also = less money but i'm a slave to the pissup.
I hate those cold calling bastards, isn't there a recent law now that stops people doing that?

ha!! brilliant. im gonna remember that one to get me through the day :)
that has got to be one of the most soul destroying jobs you could do
yes - i actually felt dirty after the first training session. whats even worse is they pump hideous pop trance through a stereo in the corner to keep everyone 'buzzed up' wtf???!!!??? not only am i selling my soul, im doing it to a DJ Otzi soundtrack!!! so, so wrong :)
a class action lawsuit was filed and the people won
yey!!! there is some justice in the world after all - how rare is that?? 8) :)
You are a fookin whore, but I wouldn't pay for your services.
you couldnt afford me mr punk ;) :p
Get yourself a job at a supermarch.
i did actually try that - i appled for co-op, got an interview and they didnt want me!! they said i was over-qualified!! bastards!! i started to explain that there interview procedure was flawed and they werent looking at the context in which i wanted the job then i realised thats probably why they werent hiring me. i also tried Lidl and safeway but to no avail :(

yep, me too. im always pretty rude to people that call especially on sunday morning. i heard about that law, but we're not actually SELLING anything, just getting salespeople in to give them a quote. tenuos, i know. :)
first day proper tomorrow, on the phones with no trainer all session, am i looking forward to it...... not in the slightest!! think jupiter 6 mips, think jupiter 6, they can show their windows to their grandchildren, they want the pretty windows, they want the pretty windows. . . :)

Hangovers are unfortunatly part of many of my working days, it really pisses me off. When in this state customers just annoy me, so I just point and walk away. Usually just ignore them too.
I have been to work a little pissed from the night before, twas embarrasing cos I fell up the stairs and people saw :-//

did my first full shift (3 hours) and..............
it wasnt as bad as i expected. tbh after an hour your just numb to it, all the rejection just starts to wash over you. i even found it amusing when people got angry at me 8O :)
i think the reason its so soul destroying is that you do get 3 hours of people not wanting to speak to you - then at the end of it you get pressure from your line manager for not getting any leads!! so, your not pleasing the people you work for AND your DEF not pleasing the people your calling.
and the worst part - after 3 hours i get to take home 13.50. thats not even 3 slabs of 12" vinyl.
oh well.

I might as well rant about my day at work. Overall, my job is fun and I absolutely love working around the people I do, my employer has been so good to me over the years, the perks are great plus once in a while I get to be creative. But today, I had to reprice a ton of cd's. All of them were Universal (label) cd's. As some of you might have heard, a few months ago Universal decided to cut down their prices, mainly from $18.99 to $12.99 *non sale price* in an effort to boost sales, bring people into retail outlets like mine, and encourage other labels to follow suit by dropping their prices.
Over the past couple of months, our store (along with other stores in the chain) have had to reprice all the Universal cd's in the stores. It was a pain in the ass to do this but imo worth it if it meant people were paying a good, competitive price and not going to meglomarts to buy their music. Cd's that were normally priced at $18.99 were down as much as $6, and that was good for sales and customers were happy. But in basic terms the other labels accused Universal of dominating the market, and now, only a couple months into the game, the pressure was on and the prices of these cd's were rejacked up to $18.99
The kicker is, each unit (cd) net cost is $9.09 - that means, the price jacking went up over twice that, to $18.99 ! Something's not right here...
Ugh, I tell you. I know there are costs that need to be covered and people all the way down the line need to be paid - plus retail establishments have to make a profit somewhere. But come on! Jacking up the price 2x over the net cost just seems like gauging to me, maybe I'm wrong but I know for a fact people will shell out their money if the price is right and comparable to other stores...
Sorry, had to get that off my chest.
