Escape Velocity is not a Single per se.

From what I've heard of Further I don't think there's really any chart friendly tracks on the album other than Swoon. I suppose the term "chart friendly" is an unreliable one however, as there's been tracks released by other artists (Royksopp's Happy up Here springs to mind) that you wouldn't expect to be played on the radio but end up being played and turning out to be popular!

Considering there don't seem to be any other tracks that would suit a Popof remix and the fact that up to this point all the "Further"-era artwork has been stills from the visuals ("Escape Velocity" had a heavily-trailed version of the dancing-monkey thing, "Swoon" had a shot of Furthergirl jubilantly leaping, and of course the artwork from the album itself seems like a still from "Snow" or "Wonders of the Deep") and they have a rather excellent still from the "Horsepower" video for sale on a T-shirt in the store, I'd say that it's going to be a single.

This is the only track on the album I don't actually get. I heard the album in its entirety in a once off a while ago but its taken until today for me to get a copy. I like the Chems at their most full on but this track doesn't do much for me I'm afraid. Even my Grado Lab headphones can't seem to save it. I'm loath to criticise it considering how many people here seem to love it but I just can't see why really. Every other track on the album engages me far more. I'll stick with Wonders of the Deep and EV for full on sonic wonderment this time around.

Even though I really dig this track I see what you're saying. It does serve as the stormy divide that splits the album in 2 halves, almost. To me in some ways it's reminiscent of EBW 7 and EBW 9 - really dark, heavy tracks that could have gone on albums but were well enough left alone as is. Would you say Horsepower is simply a song you don't like, or do you feel it's too dark and too unlike more whimsical feel of the other tracks - that Horsepower might have been better suited as a b-side?

Horse Power is awesomazingmothafuckinkickass ! If it weren't on Further, the album wouldn't have been worth waiting for it (except for EV).

Exactly the latter Whirly. It sounds like a Chems B side to me. One of those tracks that's not necessarily bad (one of the reasons I love the Chems is that they have a very very high standard for for what they deem a cut off point between what they choose to release in any form and what they don't, far higher than any other band I can think of) but at the same time its not at their best. Like others here I don't really like comparing tracks too much but my choice fav Chems noisy moments are amongst many others Three Little Birdies Down Beats, Loops of Fury, Believe and Under the Influence. Horsepower for me is no where near touching those tracks.

Its fine for it to be dark and menacing, the album needs to have that counterpoint moment I think, but structurally and melodically it doesn't do much me. Sorry folks.

I don't agree, but everyone likes what they like. To me is Horsepower is brilliant. It fits beautifully on the record, it makes that need for Swoon to come in and take you to a different world. It's a simple groove, but it's so well produced, that it has a mad tribal energy. Wait till you hear it live is my suggestion. It's very much album material.
Infact, I feel Don't Think is perfect b side material - there was a discussion around here that it should have been on the album instead of horsepower, i don't agree. Don't think is very cool, a la Swiper or Giant, very good but unfinished to fit in on the Further trip.
That's how I feel.

Interesting, I never read any of that. Is Don't Think legally available anywhere? Couldn't see it on itunes. I'd like to hear it.

I definitely believe "Don't Think" is better off NOT on Further. It's reminiscent of a mix of Midnight Madness, Get Yourself High and Under the Influence. Mash them up, and you get Don't Think.

THOUGH - the best part of Don't Think, is you finally get to hear what they did with that massive banging sound and the strings. :)

It's a FUN and wacky track. Love it.

Dunno if it's available yet anywhere other than the extra Further track? (yet) I'm sure it will be. They're always good at eventually releasing things in multiple countries, in multiple formats.

And for my two cents on Horse Power, I think they did an excellent job taking Dissolve (one of my favorite on the album) into Swoon, which isn't easy. It's a great banging song that reminded me of some of the older Chem vibe. Loved it.

"Horse Power" reminds me alot of "It Doesn't Matter" (and maybe "Don't Stop The Rock") because they are both emphasize repetition and variation a la Baroque.
HORSE ... POWER ...
IT DOESN'T MATTER...

Anyways, I think it is a nice update to that type of track. I like it alot.

The vocal of "Horse Power" reminds me the one of "Music: Response"
And the instrumental reminds me Hey Boy Hey Girl but with the dark side of Flashback.

Same here, I wrote that on the review thread. At 3 min that part has the HBHG feel. Ditto with horse power music response.
