Oh come on, just because I said it would fit inside and it did not trust me.
It was right, but still.
Speaking about which, that song was not made by the Chems. No, I swear it wasn't. So please close this thread, thanks.

I'm a bit late in the game here, but I posted some initial thoughts in our little closed Facebook group. I thought well, I'll consider the context and give it a bit more time to see if some of those feelings could soften a bit. So here I am, and honestly, I still find this tune a difficult one to swallow. I get that this is new territory, it s trap or whatever the young whippersnappers are listening to these days. I like what I like, and when I don't like something - well, opinions. Everyone's got them. I guess the thing that stuck out initially and still sticks with me now is this doesn't feel like a Chemical Brothers song to me. And because I'm not feeling it, I'm struggling to hear it. I don't like saying that, because even though there's some songs of theirs I don't froth at the mouth over, it's 99.9% of the time anything but a struggle to hear the Chems out. I've mentioned here a few times in the past that there is a uniqueness to their music, these sounds and the way they are textured into their songs - you can hear trace elements of these sounds weaved throughout their history. It's like their fingerprints, you can sense them all over the tracks as you journey from song to song, album to album. And this history builds a familiarity. An "aw yeah, that's the Chemical Brothers" familiarity we've heard whenever Zane or Tong premiers a new Chems track that whips us all into a frenzy. There is something in this new song that's missed me, or maybe I'm just missing the point all together. I totally respect the differing opinions here, and know some of you love the track and that's awesome. You don't need to justify why you like it, or explain what it is into oblivion. But I'm glad you did, because maybe it might not make me love the song but it will help me understand it a bit more.
Then again, it's just a song. In a vast desert between albums. A song for a movie geared toward people who might not have heard of the Chems who might listen to this and think "hmmm, I'll poke around iTunes and see what else they got going on" and discover this great band we know and love. I'm not disappointed in them at all, as they need to evolve, adapt, stay relevant, reach out to different audiences, collaborate with people we don't expect. That's cool. I'm just sittin here with you guys waiting for the next thing Tom and Ed want to throw our way.

Whirly good to see you back here! While I'm with you on the bulk of what you said, I'm afraid I don't agree with one little detail: the chemical trademark. I think you can clearly hear that it's one of their creations (even though it's not a landmark of their catalogue whatsoever). You have the nasty synthesized bass wobble and the Scale-like arpeggio which is distinctively chemical (and unlike everything else in the business). Maybe it's the way the vocals have been incorporated into that song, which indeed sound very unchemical and put at least me off the most. However, I believe at the core it has that chemical footprint - but it is not consequent enough.

Thank you, Csar - see that's exactly why I like these discussions. I may not hear it through your ears but this adds another layer of understanding which can help open my ears the next time I listen.

Offcourse I got very excited by the notion of an new Chemical Brothers track. That it is produced for an soundtrack doesn't have to be a bad thing. I favor Keep my composure on the Heroes soundtrack over the Brotherhood edit.
But This is not a game feels easy. Miquel is incredibly bad in delivering his lyrics and the beats during the verse are from a tuned done Scale. But the idea of a Lorde colab is great and the beats on the chorus are amazingly phat.
So this sounds to me a lot like an easy song made for a soundtrack, trying to bring the music to new, young people, keeping (some of) the fans happy with the phat beats, hinting on what is coming in the near future.
And that's ok in my book.
