What's it like? I really didn't like 2013.
Well it's a very album-y album. It doesn't sound like a collection of singles. In fact I have no idea what else they can realistically release as a single, I'd probably chose Nothing Is Real...but that's on the bonus disc so it's unlikely. It's better than their last couple of long players, but not as good as my fave three Scream releases (XTRMNTR, Screamadelica and Evil Heat). I've seen reviews comparing it to Screamadelica but I wouldn't really agree. The last two tracks on Disc 1 (assuming one goes for the 2cd version) may be the exceptions; Walking With The Beast has an I'm Coming Down / Damaged sort of blissful vibe whilst It's Alright It's OK does sounds a bit like Movin on Up. But there's nothing "dancey" here. Hit Void has an XTRMTR feel to it's fast urgent flow, elsewhere we get bluesy, slightly off kilter Amercana stuff. Stuff that could have featured on David Lynch films like Blue Velvet or Wild At Heart. Indeed the tail end of Invisible City sounds very much like the theme to Midnight Cowboy. David Holmes has produced this album and he's known for his soundtrack type stuff (though he's also a "dance" chap, or used to be). It's not so much a "quick fix" album (incidentally the Primals are no longer on drugs) as a big old ramble through styles, instruments and influences - though not much of the Stones this time. It's interesting but also challenging; not necessarily a bad thing.

I really like Tenement Kid. Although as you said, I don't know if it's a good potential single.

@iggy: Found a download for Ben_j's friend's track: https://soundcloud.c...sm-original-mix
Another excellent album this year is Karl Hyde's solo album Edgeland, I've been listening the crap out of it:
He just wrapped up a short tour of really great intimate live shows in support of this album. Towards the end of the concerts when he ran out of his own songs to play, he (with the support band) would do semi-acoustic covers of Underworld songs like Jumbo, 8 Ball, and a really powerful rendition of Dirty Epic. I'll share a recording if anyone's interested.

My misses and I saw him a few weeks back at the Opera House in Sydney. The solo stuff doesn't do a lot for me, but it was still a great show. It was a pretty small audience and Karl seemed to enjoy himself, told a few stories and stuff. A good night out.
Further Remixed There's nothing else...

I listened to the Dog's Blood set from Coachella and it was heavily inspired by early 90s sounds. Sampled tracks in the set included early Prodigy, Josh Wink's Higher State of Consciousness, and beats that seemed straight out of an underground rave. Admittedly, some great energy.

Yeah, I always hated Skrillex's music but I really like Dog Blood. And his Essential mix is a lot in this style too
