I know there's a few forumites here who work in the website design/graphic design fields, so I thought I'd post this. Last semester I took a Web Dev course and our final assignment was to make a website however we wanted using what he had learned over the semester. I made a mock music artist site for myself and I'm kinda proud of it. Interested in your opinions/critique:

http://cshonegger.iweb.bsu.edu/

It was coded with only HTML and CSS over the course of about 4-5 days. 50% of the content on the site is total BS, but the important part is the layout/coding. Try resizing the main page (it uses a semi-fluid layout), different browsers (it will function nicely in the 5 most popular browsers), and check out the source code if you're fluent.

(my grade was 300/300 A+, but I got no feedback).

Don't get me wrong, i'm fine with everyone who is proud of something he/she did, even more if it's a time-consuming piece of work - but it looks like some of the old myspace-design custom desings. Not a bad thing, but also not a "today"-thing.

Not with Firefox 18.0.1 and Safari 5.1.7 :( Didn't try it on IE, Opera or Chrome.

I know nothing about coding/web design. I am a poor resource for feedback.

In other news, I've been sick as fuck, and I'm not fully well. Bummer.

But hey--going to Santa Cruz this weekend for some rest.

In other news, my roommate has moved her sister into the apartment for an unset, temporary period of time until she finds another apartment to live in, i.e., she's moving out but until that point the apartment has another person to deal with.

::sigh::

Why does San Francisco housing having to be so fucking difficult...

Ah, damn. It's supposed to display in "Consolas", but that's not installed on your system, so it's compromising to a different fixed-width font, which is screwing up the image float for the "store" there... can't believe I didn't test for that. The website looks a lot less Myspace when it runs in the proper font.

For the player in the header - in Firefox you are missing a plugin, and in Safari, I've never seen that white border appear before. I used the Windows version of Safari to test Safari.

The not "today" thing is probably because I only used HTML and CSS (no javascript), I'm partial to the simple designs of older "Web 1.0" sites, and I'm still pretty ignorant in HTML.

Thanks for pointing out the bugs! I'll solve those next time I try something.

I was thinking that too! Good work that need some tweaks...that's all WN!

Doing taxes here at home! A little rain fell + clam chowder for dinner + listening to radio for Coachella announcement. Just a lame way to get ratings on a lame station.

Probably C.

And speaking of the letter C, when is the god damn Coachella lineup going to come out? I need to make plans if I'm going to go. Jesus.

Very relieved Tom and Ed aren't on the line up. It sounds terrible, I know. But at least if they aren't on the list then I won't lose sleep over not going.

But Stone Roses. Damn. That is a huge one for me and there is a twinge of pain and reminisce at missing out.

Current thoughts:

1. Tom and Ed aren't there.

2. There aren't all that many big name electronic music acts there... Or, at least, very few that I'd really love to see.

3. Why is Phoenix headlining? They're a headliner?

4. The 90's called. Again. Thanks Coachella.

Looks like I won't be making the trip to Indio this year.

yeah. this seems the weakest lineup from coachella standards would I be correct? Some are some welcome comebacks but pretty much nearly everyone there has already toured down under with various festivals so I guess this wont be the year I take a mortgage out to coachella....

I think the lineup is incredibly strong. I don't think it's very imaginative, but it's jammed with good stuff similar to the 2007 lineup.

I will agree that the electronic scene has gone downhill at this festival. There is very little effort to get some respectable electronic acts for the level headed people. After undertaking the huge honor of composing music for the opening ceremony for the Olympics, why on earth is Underworld not there?

There has been a common theme with Coachella for the past few years. If there not on tour, they don't bother. It's weird because Coachella used to be a festival that would lure groups/bands to reunite or do "one-and-done" type shows. Not so much anymore.

On another note, look how far Paul Oakenfold is down the lineup. It's both hilarious and sad how irrelevant he's become. A once respectable producer gone mainstream, only now to be scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

I saw them headline at London's Field Day in 2010. That, admittedly is a smaller affair than Coachella but I enjoyed their set. Nonetheless I agree with you. I would have made New Order the headliner on that day.

That's quite funny. I'm old enough to remember the Stone Roses the first time round and I'm looking forward to seeing them at Finsbury Park in June (for the first time). I hope some of these people go along and find out who the Roses are. I like the idea of people discovering bands they don't know at a festival rather than just seeing the people they know.

Exactly what I thought re: 2007 lineup. Was disappointed with that year, too. ;-)

I just got an e-mail from Underworld via newsletter and it appears that Rick and Karl are both doing solo projects at the moment, or more accurately Karl Hyde has a solo artist album coming out that he worked on with Leo Abrahams, and Rick Smith has been scoring the new Danny Boyle film called Trance that is coming out in March in the U.K. No word on Darren Price.

Re: Oakenfold. LOL - yes. Irrelevant was EXACTLY the word that came to mind when I saw that. Well, I suppose the obligatory "REALLY??" followed, but that goes without saying. I saw Paul Oakenfold for the first time after the Chems in 2002, and then again when he opened for Underworld (coincidentally enough) back in 2007 or so. He has not stepped beyond 1997 in the worst way possible, and everything about his setup was exactly the same in the two times I saw him. It seems like he got lazy, perhaps, or maybe just rested on his laurels.

So, yes, the Coachella lineup is packed with popular artist and the promoters managed to dredge up some talent from the past 90's that no one thought would be seen again. But I remain terribly saddened that this did not create the necessary draw for me to make my way down there this year.

Phoenix as a headliner is semi-surprising. I remember seeing them on one of the smaller stages back in 2006 in the middle if the afternoon. I enjoyed the set but didn't think they were headliner material.

I'm amazed that there is not as many now name electronic artists on the line up. I would have thought you would see Machinedrum, Toro y Moi, Faulty DL, Jay Electronica. What do I know though. I'm looking closely at the sonar and outlook festivals this year.

2011 now seems like an aberration, in what has been a steady decline for Coachella's electronic scene.

I agree Phoenix as a headliner is surprising, but Coachella tends to get things like this right. Much like the Black Keys or even Arcade Fire headlining in previous years. Both seemed premature at the time, but in retrospect they were correct. In other words, expect Phoenix to have a big year. I'm assuming Phoenix has a new album out or is about to release a new album. Therefore, I imagine their music will be well circulated via adverts, media, and heavy touring, just like the aforementioned groups.

And after further thinking, what I enjoy about this years lineup is the crowd should be pretty tame this year. Their isn't a ton of douchebag magnets, aside from Dogblood, Bassnectar, Knife Party, and other shitty dubstep DJ's. The meathead nation should be lessened compared to last few years.

I'm excited, should be a good weekend. :)

I wouldn't mind Dogblood! I'm just interested to see them...a teeny bit.....BUT

friday seems the weakest of the three! But YYY should of been headliner! I've digged thru Trent's HTDA...not bad. Good rap reunions by the way.

I know RHCP came down to the last minute (not much a fan, but we'll see)! But Sunday has some wishlist acts for me! AND THE WU IS THERE! Saturday looks very solid with New Order + Postal Service +Hot Chip! Janeele Monae ( guilty pleasure) Phoenix!.....Hmm....isnt that code for DP at the end of their set?

The lineup's not mind-blowing, but it's good and will do.....AND THE EDM CHEESE IS GONE!

Note: Since Tame Impala was referred by a forum member at Coach, and the fact there's a thread about the band, I must say that Innerspeaker is such a 'go-to' album for the last 2 months for me (every track is a diamond) Lonerism is next! Can't wait to see TI!

And T and E don't have to worry about food and drink! I think we can provide them on that so far since there not playing, but visiting would be most encouraging.

You know what's frustrating. Not having a proper personal computer to type on for more than a month. My power supply was knackered till I got a new one today. It was frustrating having to type on an iPhone or a tablet. Back to my normally scheduled typing speed and bad grammar.
