Lights go down, spot goes on... I hereby declare the "X vs. Y" thread as officially open 8)
The Rules: Both tracks must share their name, but must not be cover versions. The rest is open to you. So, let's jump right into the first clash:
Daft Punk: Aerodynamic vs. Kraftwerk: Aerodynamik
First I must admit that Daft Punk's track is one of the very, very few tracks from Discovery I really like, the mix on Daft Club is even better. It's like the vocals from "One More Time" always belonged to Aerodynamic in the first place. The single parts of the song smoothly work with each other, but I think the guitar "solo" is too long and they should have mixed it right into the other parts.
Kraftwerk's track almost seems like a retrospective that takes you back to their early work. It has all the ingredients a good Kraftwerk track needs: the hypnotic bass line, the minimal percussions and - of course - the vocoded voices. Where Daft Punk stick to their tracks without too much change, Kraftwerk play around with the samples, creating an experience that is much more surprising and doesn't seem to exist of five sample tracks only. Of course it would still hardly work on the dancefloor if you expect something "house", but in the first few minutes of a mix set it might drag your attention.
Your opinions ?

Pink Floyd: Breathe VS. Prodigy: Breathe
I'd have to say that the Pink Floyd song is much, much, better than the Prodigy track. Not that the Prodigy track is bad -- it's pretty good -- but the PF song carries with it far more feeling, and better attention to detail. Overall, it feels warmer and is better written.

He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

This Mortal Coil: Song to the Siren vs. Chemical Brothers: Song to the Siren
Apples and oranges here, brothers and sisters. It's not right comparing as these tracks are night and day. Song to the Siren, originally written by Tim Buckley, was covered by This Mortal version and that's the one I'm familiar with. Since we all know what the Chemical version is like, and we all know that it rocks the house, there's no need for me to describe it's wonderous assault on the pleasure senses. But to those of you unfamiliar with the This Mortal Coil take on Song to the Siren - it is an absolultely gorgeous ballad that is sung almost acapella. It's a powerful song, and the way in which the lyrics are sung are haunting in a way. For me personally, I refuse to say which is better, I like both songs for different reasons. The Chems version you can shake it to, it's still new to me - the Mortal version you cannot shake it to and holds a sort of nostalgic appeal for me.
So that's that.

Our Lady Peace, of course. ;-) X-D
2K - ***K The Millennium vs. Scooter - F*** The Millennium
Ok, I might be a bit biased here, but I still think 2K win this one without doubt. That's what you get if you put a trance anthem, a 30 head brass band (and a Chemical Brothers sample) in the same tune - wicked 8)

Kraftwerk - Music Nonstop vs Chemical Brothers - Music:Response
Ok first of all i love Music nonstop..its a classic tune.Boingboing boom chak. Just great. mresponse is ok, too bleepy, good beats and effects though... The vocal sample in both is equally cool but i think Music Nonstop beats Music:response. :)
