You choose your music according to which age range it is targeted for? Rather than simple "I like it." or "I don't like it."
To answer you question, its targeted audience is everyone on planet dust, Everyone who has once in their lifetime felt love for all. Does that answer your question.

You guys are tough! ;) If I were writing a research paper on band marketing, trying to get stats or whatever, I would visit the place where the fans hang. It makes sense, really as that is where you'll get the most direct answers and engage in discourse.
Jamie - it it helps to answer your question, the target age of those around here (on the forum) is early to mid 20's. Though to be fair we have people of all ages from 13 to 30-something who care enough about the band to post here.
Going out into the real world, the music/live shows attract a crowd of all ages although you will find a lot of their crowd to be in their 20's.
When I worked in a record store, I sold copies of the Chemical Brothers albums to people of all ages *however* a lot of those people were mostly late 20's, early 30's. At least in my experience.
Videos that follow a trend? I'm not sure what you mean. If you could please elaborate on the question, we might be able to answer.
As for background on the band, that's a bit vague. If there are specifics you want to know, just ask and I'm sure we can help you with that too.

I dont think the chems 'Target' a certain age range when making music or even think about what age the listener will be, they just make good music that is targeted at good music lovers.
In the Glasto interview they said it was cool how lots of young people were into there music and were in the crowd, but how you also had the older generation of people who were the orginal ravers.

^ True - the Chems make the music they want to make, not to appeal to a certain age group.
Record companies have target markets, though. It's like anything else that is consumed - television has target markets, clothing has target markets, food has target markets, advertising for all of these things is pretty much based on target markets, etc. It's a huge part of promotions, sales, even cross marketing and all that big biz crap - things like target markets and demographics and all of that play a big part in what is sold and who it's sold to.
