Now if only I could combine everyone's weekend into one:

Football in the park in the afternoon

Shrooming...

..... at an 80's club

Before going to a DnB party!!!

With the bevvie of choice being vodka and coke.

Unfortunately, I work all weekend and study ev-er-y day!

Wish we had shrooms for the 80's club. Believe me...

Drinks will have to suffice for the evening.

Hopefully something entertaining will happen.

"Why dont you ever have any friends over?"...

"We didnt have the internet when i was growing up."...

"Talking on the internet isnt the same as talking to people in real life."...

"If all you do is talk to people on the internet, you'll be lacking in social skills as an adult."...

etc. ad infinitum

Bah! My parents are the opposite.

"Aren't you ever going to spend a night in?" "Why can't you come home before 3 AM?" "Are you becoming an alcoholic?" "We don't want you to be on drugs!"

To have them encouraging me to go out and be social would be a welcome change!

Being raised by you and stash, your son will probably have the best childhood ever, i would imagine X-D

Yeah, but don't forget that he won't be able to get away with much, as they know most or all of the tricks of the trade. Cool now, but could become a major drag in about 10 years. :D

hehe... my son barely stands a chance! Poor kid.

That's very sweet that you think my son has the best childhood, FlamingDead. If we could, we'd adopt you to be a big brother or something.

But that would really freak your parents out, you know - the whole internet thing. X-D

Allright, 4 of us piled into a small sportscar and made our way up to Los Angeles, which took almost 2 hours because of road construction and general Los Angeles traffic - and there's always traffic in Los Angeles. We went to this little club that's just starting out, but there were people smoking on the patio out front, so we drove around looking for parking that was permit required, and made our way to the door. The friends we went with knew the dj from when he used to play at other clubs we used to frequent (pre having a child), and now he pretty much uses a laptop to do what he does, so a lot of what we heard came straight from our friends' music collection.

So blah blah blah, lots of old geezers like ourselves that I know we've seen dancing at the old goth/industrial clubs off and on for the past 10 years. And still, nobody even comes up to chat or talk after all this time and brief moments of familiarity (except for this bald shark who was hittin on my friend and I, and wound up having a half hour long drug talk with stash - which is no surprise) And nobody's really dancing all that much. The vibe wasn't happening.

It's just a weird scene, makes me feel old, and really the crowd doesn't seem to ever enjoy itself which is why we sort of migrated away from that scene a few years ago in search of a better vibe.

So, the music. Not bad if it was 1986. They played some New Order which is always great to hear in club, they played newer stuff like some VNV Nation, the new Depeche Mode single... but also more old Duran Duran was played out than any human being should hear in a club in 2005, and Safety Dance (which I actually got drunk enough to dance to) and Q-feel. Once Q-Feel was played I thought we'd ask the dj to kick it up a bit with maybe some early 90's industrial, you know maybe Thrill Kill Kult "Cooler Than Jesus". It looked like some of these people could use a work out rather than stand on the dancefloor doing the gothic umpty. We were denied.

OK, since we're pretending it's 1985, how bout Heaven 17, I could get down to a little Facist Groove Thang. Clearly, nobody knew what I was on. What's an 80's sythpop retro club doing without Heaven 17 on the menu.

To be honest, I have no interest going to an 80's club or any club that boasts musical/genre themes. I just want to be at a club where everything's on the menu and anything is possible musically. I don't mind 80's music because I grew up with it, but I don't want to pay money to listen to it, and I certainly don't want to dance to it except for the odd tune here and there. So most the evening was spent chainsmoking cigarettes and drinking vodka and cranberries out on the patio.

And the freeways were closed. Not just one freeway, but a bunch of freeways. So it took about 3 hours to get home but thankfully I was passed out in the backseat for the ride.
