Future music = not as good as entertainment center... but still very good. For starters, yes there was also a lack of das spiegel and TSU... just didn't feel right finishing on block rockin beats... Oh and not to mention the group chant behind me that started for 'salmon dance'... funny when my mate told them to "shut the f*** up! they aint gonna play it!!!"...

P.s Have under the influence & Golden path always been that massive?

Hey all!

Just got back from future music fest and I'm really glad I went to a solo gig on Wednesday 'cos the people today ruined my day!

Dance festivals these days annoy me 'cos everyone has to go...they are over sold... and when you ask the crowd "Who are you here to see?" They don't know.

WHY???

because people don't go to festivals anymore for the music they go for the booze, the drugs, to pose, to look hot in their facebook/ myspace pics that get posted later in the week. To show off their spray tans and muscles they worked so hard for at the gym for just for that day!

Well OK fair game NOT everyone knows no one but from the vibe I got today a fair few didn't. I'm a little upset as there isn't the love festival goers share for each other anymore. Just trashy locals who pump and bop (the dance move everyones doing) not giving a fuck about the tunes or the company.

I arrived late as it was friggen hot (35 degrees) and I wasn't keen on melting away too early. I was extremely overwhelmed with the amount of people there was. It was doing my head in so we quickly contacted our other mate to sit and relax with a bev in the shade. This alone took and hour and a half. GRRRRRRR I wasn't enjoying the day at all. I just wanted chem bros to come on so I wouldn't have to deal with anything else. I also really wanted to get into the music bowl for their set but the line was HUGE and not moving! There was no way I would be in the main pit for the chems. So I was as far far far away as I could be. I thought whatever I was second from the front the other night I might just view this on from a distance. When it was finally time for chems the whole area was packed! It was nice to see that people wanted to see them! Although the whole set was... "oh wait Salmon Dance is next" "oh wait no its not... oh after this one" "Ahhh it will be soon they will have to play it..." "what the fuck they didn't play it?"

SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!! THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS HAVEN'T BEEN HERE FOR THREE LONG LONG YEARS AND THEY ARE PUTTING ON THE MOST AMAZING SHOW FOR YOU AND YOUR COMPLAINING ABOUT ONE FRIGGEN SONG WHICH WOULD HAVE NEVER WORKED LIVE. FUCKEN MORONS!!

Deep breath

But ok it wasn't all grim... Chemical beats was fucken INSANE....I danced like a crazy woman and scared everyone around me. Yes fucken yes!

And of course the saturate... my song for the year "sigh"

Tom and Ed I personally apologise for the stupidity and the ignorance of the Melbourne people. They should have done their friggen research and learned that no you don't play that one track but everything else is ten million times better!

And as I type this I see a chems text:

09-03-2008 // Got to say a personal thanks to mr mohican for telling that salmon guy to shut up!Nice one....x

Enough said....

its a little early but thanks anyway

kwiddle dancing like a crazy woman in the face of the stupdity that surrounds her. And frightening people while she's at it. That'll show 'em! Way to go!! hehehe. Glad to read you made the most out of the experience and enjoyed and appreciated the show.

Salmon tomfoolery or not, I must admit it's quite amazing to read all these recent reviews that mention bits about the crowd shouting and asking for it. But still, a Chems show isn't a fucking piano bar with Tom and Ed taking song requests. Just shut up and dance, people!!

Love the txt!

Wonder what Tom and Ed had for dinner that evening?

Fucking hell kwiddle, the crowd sounds terrible. I wonder if they had the same kind of idiots at FMF in Perth? I'd be gutted if The Chems didn't do an encore.

Of the 3 gigs I saw them play here in London, I don;t think anyone would have even thought of The Salmon Dance.

Nice reviews!! Sounds like good fun had by all. So is the Salmon Dance just really popular in oz or something, like national anthem status? Anyway you're bound to get people to piss on the show, it just happens when thousands of people are in the same area.

Well...its now Monday and I think I have finally recovered from THE best ever Chems weekend of my life!!!

FMF in Sydney was quite honestly the most perfect little dance festival I have ever been to...and I have been to tons of them back in Blighty. The main reasons being...

a. NO CHAVS!!! Was utterly wonderful not to be greeted with the sight of hundreds of ignorant rude people.

b. GIN & TONIC IN CANS!!! I am in heaven!

c. Australian crowds smell LOVELY!!! :-)

d. Everyone is so bloody friendly - you would just brush past someone and they would apologise.

e. Flushing clean toilets with sinks and handwash.

f. Lashings of shade provided

g. NO big wet patches around the water areas.

h. free suncream too.

And so to the actual Chems show...well you have read my review of Friday night and I said it is in my Top 3 now...Friday night just got kicked to number 4 cos FMF just was quite honestly THE BEST show I have seen since catching my first version of the WATN show back at Rockness last summer.

It was a very cheeky affair with Tom & Ed throwing all sorts of lovely extra vocal tweaks, extra suoper long breakdowns and build ups eg in Believe and WATN...twas ridiculous at times...I LOVED IT!

I have to say, after seeing quite a few versions of the show now, you could really REALLY tell the boys were utterly loving every minute!

And as for the Salmon Dance people, I just had to break it to all the folk around me that they would never play it...and that it is not a big tune really outside of Oz. Although it would have been a bit funny if they had dropped just one or two beats and then not carried on...teehee!

The sound was pretty good considering we were outside, not as good as Glasto but still damn fine...stuff the racehorses!

My t'internet time is about to run out so will more or less stop here initially.

I managed to get to a house party after the fest as well and finally rolled in at about 4am on Sunday morning...WHAT a way to start my Sydney life...the Southern Cross rose behind the stage as the Chems show started too...GOD I LOVE THIS COUNTRY! And the Chems of course...

I am definitely coming back to Olympia!!!!!!

Augh, my jealousy goes out to all the Aussies who were able to see that show.

@3rd Brother: Thanks for posting the YouTube vids!!

::cheers::

Edit: Watching The Golden Path clip again--IT'S SO GOOD!!!!!

Great reviews of Melb, I'm a little ashamed to say I found my way here trying to piece back a hazy (but happy) memory of wednesday night. I kept myself away from setlists and youtube in the lead up so it was a lot to take in and remember ....

- did we get even the finishing beats of Elektrobank? I was really hanging out for that track... oh well.

I'm a few tours late in reality but I would have loved The Test or Hoops too.

I have to say, it's been an amazing year for live music. Daft Punk, topped for me by Chemical Brothers and if the gods smile on us we might see Underworld sometime soon (and im confident they will continue this trend)

AAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

fuck that shit.

firstly, the mohican guy they are talking about was my mate marcus who along with me went to both solo and both future shows, that is awesome, i'm a tell him :)

on top of that, its rad to hear about the two fture shows from kwiddle and lucy, giving it a tarentino/go! feel. all different perspectives or whetever...

MY FMF reviews:

sydney, i hate every single person i had to look at at this show except my mates and the chems, it was a great show, the day sucked because of the crowd and i agree 1 million percent with what you said about them kwiddle, marcus and i were being lectured by some fucking idiot on why we should move to the back and give someone else a turn at the front because we weren't enjoying it as much as others, maybe true. because rodger sanchez sucks, but we were there for a reason, she was there to look good, and she diddn't do that too well either.

the set was great because the crowd were idiots and puching and shoving so it was nice and bumpy and exciting, plus i tihnk i elbowed a few shirtless idiots, so... well. good.

then melbourne.. and fuck.

after getting over my fear of flights (anything for one last show?) we arrrived in melb, and realised my ticket which i bought over the net did not arrive, so i did what i always do when my ticket does not arrive, take some other old ticket, act confused when it doesn't scan properly, and walk into the concert.

lined up for three hours with "cool people" and finally made it to the front.

wow! i was gong to be like 4 metres away from them this time, and they were like on our level too, it was REAL close.

then some drunk chick was complaining so i gave up my spot.

then they came on, and it was awesome, and i loved it.

and the three girls hanging onto the barrier in front of me started to talk about some shit for ages, and i started to feel rather annoyed that they diddn't actually want that position and i did.

then after starguitar in the quiet break, the guy next to marcus and i says "IS THAT IT? THEY DIDDN'T PLAY SALMON DANCE?!"

marcus and i are all like:

"nah they dont play it live"

"WHAT? WHY?

"it just doesn't really sit into their set, they play the more dancier and euphoric tunes"

"AWW BUT THATS MY FAVOURITE SONG"

i'm thinking, oh, ok well shit, i diddn't realise. hold on i'll go tell the security guard for you ok?

so this guy turns to tom, not yet content with our response and yells in the terrible accent which is australian:

"OI! PLAY THE SALMON DANCE!!"

tom shakes his head and keeps mixing

"PLAY IT!!"

shakes his head again, keeps mixing

"WHY NOT!!??"

tom begins to laugh and mouths:

"Fuck you"

"JUST FUCKING PLAY IT!!!"

at this point tom walks over to ed, tapps him on the back and points this guy out and mimics:

"play the salmon song!"

and they both have a good laugh

the dumbass tries again:

"FUCKING PLAY IT"

at this point marcus tells him to shut the fuck up, its not going to happen.

and then marcus tells me (i diddn't see it) tom called the guy

"You little piecee of shit"

WOW

it was hilarious, i was so... i dunno, i just thought it was funny i guess.

then the guy was embarrased and moved over to let me up the front saying "Oi, its your favourite band, go here"

so i did and it was pretty wonderful being so close seeing it all one last time like that. plus every now and then ed would smile like some all knowing father reassuring his kids at me, so that was a bit of fun too.

then they left after chemical beats (this ending being the most intense fuck off noise show off thing i had seen of all 4 shows) and as they left stage, i knew something was up. everyone around me instantly goes: "IS THAT IT?!?!?!" i would usually reassure them, no, they are coming back to play more.

but something felt wierd, and then the house lights came up, and i smiled with pride, cause that took balls.

awesome.

and all day i have been so sad as i drove back to canberra from melbourne, my speeding ticket, parking ticket, non arriving ticket, sleepless train ticket, fear of flying ticket, lack of money ticket, it was all such a great experience, all of it. including all the terrible shit that went down, the lack of fresh underwear, the lack okf sleep.

i miss the chemical brothers already, what a wonderful week it was. no really, that first time i saw EBW8 live and cried like a little girl, will be forever etched into my memory, and now i am on the verge of tears.

back to work tomorrow.

Awwwww, thank you so much Lucy, you're a babe! I enjoyed your fresh 'top 3' perspective of the festival. And sirbadge, oh my god the rundown of the Salmon Incident that took place made me laugh, hahaha!

What a fantastic run this has been, going by the gorgeous reviews. Sounds like the Chems enjoyed their their time, too.

Thanks again for the reviews, lovely people!
