people who max their cars should pay attention to this proverb. you cant polish a turd!!
a 1.2 nova will always be a 1.2 nova no matter how much body kit you add to it. if you add lights underneath your car you automatically become a wanker. no matter how much your mates at the macdonals drive thru car park give you admiration. there is a lot more to life than cars, they only get you from a to b. having some sort of 'life' is far more rewarding

I don't know what you guys across the pond call them, but over here when cars are suped up like some techno funk spaceship, we call it "riced out". Out here in southern California, riced out cars are a big deal. People dump a lot of money into their cars which wind up looking like they rolled off the set of Fast and the Furious.
It's amazing how much money people put into restoring their old Honda Civics. And it's amazing still how much people pour into a brand new car.
To some degree I can understand it - making the most out of what you got. I once had an old classic car I was fixing up, it would've been a perfect beauty if I ever finished before I had to sell it. Easy to spend a lot of money on a car, it adds up. You can tell it's a hobby for a lot of people and it's obvious the tlc that goes into some of these cars. I know for people like chem'd up it might be easy to buy a more expensive car right off the lot, but for many people, it's easier to get something cheaper and spend the money fixing it up like you want, a bit at a time as you go.
Me, I have a hard enough time keeping my car in decent working order to fuss with all those extras! ;)

sneakerbeater Escribi:
riced out = maxed up
i think the car show the biggest difference between the english language and the american's take on it.
wing = fender
bonnet = hood
boot = trunk
pertol = gas
Definitely right, sneaker. We have different spellings too like tyres = tires and we pronounce the word 'garage' differently. You pick up an American car magazine and the lingo is a lot different than a British car mag.
We also have a crap load of different phrases for maxed out cars (suped up, rigged, cherry, etc) - there's always been the American love affair with the automobile. The rice term usually applies to the Japanese make cars.
