And... the old Sport thread is broken. Boo. So here's a fresh one for random sports talk.

I never thought I'd be starting a Sports thread because I'm not a sporty type - but I've been watching a ton of Olympics since the opening ceremonies (which were freaking amazing!!) and wanted to see if anyone else was watching, too. Been a lot going on here on the personal front, so watching the games has taken my mind off a few things.

Don't mean to be all girlie, but I have to say I'm quite entranced watching the mens' Olympian swimmers. ;) They are all great, and Michael Phelps (hehe) is raking it in. It's gotten a bit like the film Groundhog's Day when he wins the gold - but I'm not complaining. That guy is a star and I like that his mom and sisters are there cheering him on too. The US men's swim team were really impressive during that 400m race and it was sooooooo close, like nano seconds close, with France who were also very very impressive and put up a fantastic fight to the finish. We were cheering, and we're not sports fans and the only 'sport' we cheer around here is Ninja Warrior - but damn. That was a good show!

Also been watching the gymnastics (and no, not just to see if the routines sync up to Elektrobank) - gymnastics are my favorite of the summer Olympics. It amazes me how these people push their bodies to the limit, test the boundaries of balance and form and defy gravity. I have been a bit disappointed in Romania, gymnastics used to be their signature sport. What happened?

So is anyone else watching (or like me, setting their dvr's)?

I still find it funny that NBC supposedly has the biggest press coverage. Yet when I watch their coverage they have little compared to the CBC and TSN coverage they have here in Canada. Yet we still don't have a fricken medal. But it is still fun to watch.

One of my friends did get it right though....I am in to the sporty type of chick......

Quick, we need a medic here. There's a sport topic broken!

@Rynostar: Some sort of beach volleyball overdose?

I've mainly been watching all the basketball games. Glad to see the U.S. on its way to reclaim the gold in basketball.

stash has been watching the womens' beach volleyball. It gives him something to do during the day. I know he thinks it's hot watching women manuever balls, but he swears the "hot factor" has nothing to do with his continued viewing of womens beach volleyball. For the record I think Misty May kicks some serious butt.

The synchronized diving is also pretty amazing. How those girls dive from the high platform in perfect unison and only cause a ripple on the water surface is beyond me.

And Ben_j - Alain Bernard is quite impressive! There was a Norweigan last week who won the silver for one of the swimming races. I think it was the first swimming medal for the Norweigans so that was cool to see. He had the biggest grin on his face and you could tell he was so proud.

dvr has revolutionized the way I've watched the Olympics this time around. I don't recall ever having watched as much Olympics in previous years... We're going to be on vacation during the closing ceremonies but hopefully we can set the dvr to record that too. I don't want to miss it!

@Csar, No, Track, Diving (Which are understandable), and Softball.......which shouldn't make sense but I find that 3/4 of the Canadians women team is hot.

For some reason I can't watch more then 5 minutes of the beach volleyball. I think it is because they play to many bad songs between serves.

the coverage in France is the lamest. There was the tennis semi final with the French team against the Swedish, it was the last set and the score was something like 14-14 on the last set. Instead of showing what was an awesome and epic game, they showed the athletism 100m series that took place 10hrs earlier...

Football tonight : France - Sweden for the World Cup qualification. Henry still has some ressources, he did an awesome pass to Govou, who scored.
