the build was intense. I would be geeked out of my mind if I were there!
and quite an amazing outro! DAMN!
same with Where Do I Begin! The Guitar worked perfectly!
Csar, you rock big time!

Boxer was fantastic. The break down was shwa-weeeeeet!! I'm listening to it again, right now actually.
I don't know, even though it was a little rough... I kind of dug Beth's rawness in the live performance. I guess when hearing the studio version of the song, I can understand how hearing this live might be a little shocking. It was a bit of a contrast to the glossy and perfected musical backdrop of the Where Do I Begin, and I just love how the song goes all swirly. I really liked the guitar in the song, it was a beautiful and organic touch.
It's a shame about Willie Mason. I would love to have heard him doing Battle Scars. I hope all is well with his family.

I'm glad you all got the chance to listen to it. But don't thank me, it's the brothers you have to ;-)
Well, Beth sounded indeed a little inharmonic at some points. But on the other hand it's certainly not that easy to sing against giant monitors and a precisely working sequencer :-). But remember Tim on Life Is Sweet (that sounded really ... duh).
She did a great shop on her guitar though. Yeah whirly, organic seems to be the best word to describe it. It was just gorgeous to hear WDIB live.
And the boxer was just phenomenal! It could easily become a set-track. The outro was just perfect.
Well the short broadcast was dissapointing and I would have loved to hear more.
Battle Scars is one of my many favourites off the album and it would be a blast to hear it sang live (Btw, what happend to Willie?).
@graysquire: thanks for the little guide!

What a show last night! My ears are still bleeding.
I was praying Tim would sing life is sweet but got a pretty good version of the boxer instead. The third time i've seen the boys this year and seeing the show in a small venue made it extra special. I've got some decent footage of Beth orton and Tim. I'll try and send a link over the weekend if anybody fancies a peak.

Alright. I'm going to add a voice of dissent now.
I was very disappointed last night. I've seen the Chems three times - at V and at Brixton in 05, and this July at Summercase in Madrid. The first time I saw them, they absolutely blew me away. Truly awesome. Second time around, yep great.
Then a break for a couple of years - new album, new material, new visuals. Wicked. A set at 3.30am, outside, was pretty special too. But although I love the music, it was starting to get a bit like I knew what I was going to get. Which is why I jumped at the chance of getting tickets for last night. "A truly one-off experience"?
Nope. Sorry. It just felt like File->Open->Set 1
File->Open->Set 2
then a couple of collaborations
then wrap it up with a couple of tracks they've not played so much recently.
KOKO is a wicked, quirky venue, but you can't tell me that down in the stalls it was a great experience. It was heaving. Nobody was dancing, really, letting themselves get lost in the music. Not like when you're out in a field at a festival. It would have been different if it had been a really different set from normal, but it just felt like same old, same old. Now that's fine for most gigs, because as we know the live experience is amazing. But this was supposed to be special, a one off, and it wasn't.
The less said about the fire alarm thing, the better - obviously that wasn't their fault, but it didn't help...
As for the collaborations... c'mon. I know we're the fans, and we want to big them up and say everything is amazing, but if you were there, can you really put your hand on your heart and say that it was brilliant? Two problems. The first was that it was just at the wrong point in the set - it just killed it stone dead for me. Lost the pace completely. The second wsa that the choice of tracks wasn't good either. The Boxer's a good track but it wasn't a great performance. Good singer + good DJ/producers doesn't necessarily make for a great result. Maybe Life is Sweet would have been better? As for Beth Orton - it was really quite poor. Didn't fit in the set, didn't work as a live track.
I'm gutted, to be honest. Maybe I've just over-exposed myself to the Chems live. But I was really hoping last night would be a real "fans" set and it wasn't. Anyone want to buy a pair of tix for Brixton in December...?
