I didn't think Legion of Boom was all that terrible, but for me personally it lacks the long term playability that Vegas has. As dated as Vegas has become to my ears, it's still a strong album in some ways and worth a spin every once in a while.
Anyway, what I think the Crystal Method were doing with Legion of Boom was honing in on their production skills, perhaps, according to some fans, at the expense of the breaks and harder edge that dominated Vegas and Tweekend. Still though, Legion isn't necessarily bad but like the Chems in this regard, people have come to expect a certain dynamic from the Method and somehow this album fell short of some expectations fans had. I think the Crystal Method are still trying to find their niche and some balance between their production skills and song writing - imo of course.
