On my youtube account, I had the Midnight Madness music video. I also had my own music video that I made to the song. I received two emails today telling me that youtube has removed them because of copyright infringement. So okay, first off, why don't they delete every other chemical brothers video too? So, as much as I don't like what they did with that, I can still see what they mean (just a little frustrated). But then there's something that bothers me. Why in the fuck did they remove my own video I made? Sure it had the song in it, but I edited that and made extra parts in it so it was like a different song kind of.

So i've had it with this shit. I thought it was only Universal Records that were youtube nazi's but now I see differently. Tom/Ed, do something!

Alas, the RIAA is a pile of steaming, misdirected pricks.

How it would be nice if some understanding would fill their heads instead of nonsense.

Wow, Chris, I feel sorry for you. Yea, don't the record companies realize that having the videos on youtube will just help promote the band even more? Bunch of dumb-shits. Now watch this thread magically get closed by the EMI fairies.

Good god, chris!! I'm so shocked and sorry about what happened to your youtube account. I'm sad for you...

I am aware that EMI is hurting and all, but jeez.

prochem - I saw this thread earlier today when it was just your post, but I was at work and couldn't reply at the time. I thought that maybe the Midnight Madness stuff was removed because the song is still so new... but now that chris' account is suspended... I don't know what to think anymore.

Why do you bother uploading official videos when the majors themselves upload them ? I don't see why you're complaining when you've done something illegal...

Uhm. "Official" videos? prochem didn't have them in his account. As for chris242's videos - the ones I've looked at in his account were the Chems vids that were clips from the BBC (Trafalgar and the like) so I'm not sure what all else was there in the 350 odd clips he had. Maybe you've never complained before Ben_j but do prochem and chris242 not have a right to be upset if they were punished for doing something they did not know violated the terms of youtube service/infringed on EMI?

I had the Midnight Madness video uploaded 20min before the other guy, but since my account isn't well known, the other guy got more views on his than mine. So I didn't really care that much. But the point being, mine was on there first.

As for the video I made myself, thats where my anger really starts to set it. I did the same kind of thing (tribute music video) for another band on another account and it got removed too.

Yeah but it's still illegal since you don't have the rights for the music.

Yes, but calling out the illegality in question isn't useful in a utilitarian sense. YouTube users aren't making money off of these things directly and their intent isn't to take credit for work that's not their own. The quality of YouTube videos isn't the same as that of one you would be able to purchase directly from whomever produced the video, so really it's not even the same product.

You're right, Ben_J, in that it's illegal, but so is smoking weed in the U.S. on the federal level. My point is that when it comes down to it, there are minimal consequences, if any.

Here's a Sex Pistols song called EMI which is relevant:

an unlimited supply

and there is no reason why

i tell you it was all a frame

they only did it 'cos of fame

who?

e.m.i. e.m.i. e.m.i.

too many people had the suss

too many people support us

an unlimited amount

too many outlets in and out

who?

e.m.i. e.m.i. e.m.i.

and sir and friends are crucified

a day they wish that we had died

we are an addition we are rivaled by none

never ever never

and you thought that we were faking

that we were all just money making

you do not believe we're for real

or you would lose your cheap appeal?

oh don't you judge a book just by the cover

unless you cover just another

and blind acceptance is a sign

of stupid fools who stand in line

like

e.m.i. e.m.i. e.m.i.

unlimited edition

with an unlimited supply

that was the only reason

we all had to say goodbye

unlimited supply e.m.i.

there is no reason why e.m.i.

i tell you it was all a frame e.m.i.

they only did it 'cos of fame e.m.i.

i do not need the pressure e.m.i.

i can't stand those useless fools e.m.i.

ulimited supply e.m.i.

hallo e.m.i. goodbye a & m

Good point Pooter the Paralegal!

Ben_j I see what you mean about owning the rights to the music and I don't think anyone's arguing with a band and labels rights to profit from their product. But Pooter's already addressed that so I have nothing else to add in that aspect.

But taking into consideration what happened with prochem and his tribute music video, I think having this type of content removed is a slippery slope.

So fow far is EMI, Universal and all the rest willing to go? Does youtube give you a slap on the wrist and a warning before taking hard measures to suspend an account for 3 years like chris242? What about bands who do covers of songs and put them up on youtube? What about all those youtube music videos that people did of Chems songs that have been up on youtube for quite some time now? Maybe I'd better check on my youtube account to see if I'm getting a slap on the wrist for posting a badly filmed clip of Bosco getting his picture taken with Tom and Ed...

I couldn't agree more Pooter. The whole situation is just nonsense. I wanna re-upload my tribute music video, but then what would happen. Would the FBI show up at my door? :s

Ha, Iggy, that song is perfect!

very weak...
