yesterday i listened to surrender (cause it was such a sunny day)...and i think the intro of under the influence has been sampled to das spiegel. in another way but it's the same i think. i mean this childish kind of voice...hard to explain, but hell, that must be it.

@Iggy: WHAT'S... TATERS... PRECIOUS?
@Maboul59: Yes yes, we've been over the name thing. German speakers--chill out.
@brother_ging: I have a feeling that the childish voice is probably a sample of a childish voice. Maybe one of Tom's children? It would make sense, seeing how "das spiegel" means the mirror. Looking into your child's face, seeing yourself in them.

I'm not German ! :) I said this...well, I learn German at school and I know how th gender of the words is something difficult in that language, so they have an excuse !
Anyway, this track is a good one, but I would'nt be astounded if we discovered that the childy voices were sampled (probably from an old cartoon or something like that).

Ah, wish there was still the Ask Tom + Ed feature.
Although I am a tad bit curious, I kind of like not knowing what the source of the giggling is... but it sounds like a child's laughter (to me). Knowing what the source of the sample is or who it is that's giggling is secondary to how it's used in the song.
Das Spiegal really is a beautiful tune - the giggle does give it a childlike quality but I like that the song feels wide open and free. Almost as though joy is being personified in sound. It conjures up some great mental images if you let it. Every time I hear this song I think of the first time I listened to it - the sun was coming up and the first signs of morning life could be heard outside as the soft rosy glow of sunlight crept its way into my livingroom. Just gorgeous.
