You know the bird noise at the end of the Chemical Beats single version? (You can minutely hear it on the album one)

Anyways, I can also hear it at the end of EBW7 and another song (I don't remember which one.) So, basically, whats the deal with this noise? It seems like its at the end of so many of there songs that its somehow special.

I wondered that too for a long time - and it was mentioned many many moons (and threads ago.) If I remember correctly, someone mentioned it's a nod to Heavenly records:

There's the little birdie!
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

Hmmm, thats really interesting. I bet if you listened so hard that it hurts, you can hear it in every song, except for their earliest maybe. I love stuff like this. :o

I've said it before and i'll say it again it's part of a cymbal that they have sampled from someware it just seems that they use this sample in quite a lot of songs.

8O Wow, that is tres cool. Very good at representing what many people believe to be "happening" in the song.

The easiest place to hear it is at the very end of Leave Home on the Singles 93-03 CD. It's attached to that cymbal crash as reaction and griffin have stated. :)

For those don't have the Singles CD, check out Leave Home on EPD. At 0.40, 0.49 and so on you can hear it.

The 'bird' noises are straight after the cymbal crash sample they use, the sound itself has a lot of energy so that's probably why they use it so much. They use it in a lot of their tracks/remixes but not all of them. Also I think Tom has said in a lot of interviews that when they started they had a real crappy mixer/sampler so maybe it introduced that bird sound artifically and they sort of kept it for old times sake!

The bird noise might be a nod to the Beatles - "Tomorrow Never Knows"?

.....the guitar sounds that sound like seagulls.

regarding Surface To Air.....I am telling you, this song si about a sunrise. As the sun goes from the surface to the air. The song sounded like a sunrise to me before I knew it's title. It is also at the end of the album. Kinda like the end to one of those crazy nights where you are awake to watch the sun rise. The song just sounds like one of those moments and would be(and has been for me) great to listen to during one of those moments.
