I don't know if this is the right topic, but I'm still quite new here...

I'm interested in why do the JAPAN editions of albums always contains some extras?!
Almost every album from every artists has some bonuses in it's Japan edition!
Why is Japan so privileged?

This is so annoying...why shouldn't USA or Germany or even Croatia don't have some extras?

Anyone?

CDs cost more in Japan than in US or Europe. If there were no bonus tracks or extras, Japanese would just import music.

Exactly. They add extra tracks and set the release date earlier as incentives for the Japanese to buy albums from their own country.

I remember Whirly posted a web article a while back explainging the whole reason but I forget where it was. I think it comes down to the domestic artists as well. They generally charge more for whole albums compared to singles. last time I was there they were (Domestic artists) still releasing a ton of singles for cheap prices at times. Mind you I don't know how much has changed in terms of mp3 markets and singles in Nippon.

Hmmm, I don't think it was me that posted a web article - I believe it might have been sneakerbeater, a long time ago.

But I did come across the following article that explains it. http://www.melodicro...nsidestory.html It should be noted that he article is from 2002. Ryno, you bring up a good point about the digital market. So much has changed since in just a few years!

That was the article that I was referencing about you whirls. It's still a good read in terms of the industry.
