so i was at a festival this weekend and at about 4 am this band Future Rock comes onstage and tells the crowd they're going to perform the music of aphex twin. pretty ambitious if you ask me... but an admirable undertaking.

ha, yea i know. i thought the same thing when they played it. i guess a live band can only so far doing aphex covers. they were smart to stick with the mostly old school stuff. can you imagine them trying to cover anything off drukqs?
i really dig the pulsewidth and the alberto balsalm.

Downloading.
I got a video from a rock band making a cover of Come to Daddy.
That song has the same drums as It Doesn't Matter, but that's it.
I don't think I just would go to see Aphex Twin live once, I've seen some live videos, and I don't like it at all.
He's really mad, and beign so, I like some of his stuff, and hate some of his stuff.

stash and I saw Aphex Twin in 1994. It was a giant rave held in downtown Los Angeles where a few city blocks were closed off to film a New Year's 2000 scene for the film Strange Days (too bad the film was stinker to put it nicely).
Anyway, I won't lie - I don't remember much of Aphex Twin sadly... but I do remember Lady Miss Keir from Deeelite. That was a good night, especially for my first rave and yes, I was a late bloomer in that regard!!
I have to say that while I have tons of respect for Richard D. James and feel he's a brave musical genius in his own right, I just cannot get into his music. Ambient Works and earlier material aside, there is something about his format, his style and his nearly discorant approach that I find far too demanding and a downright assault on the senses. Not that those qualities are a bad thing in the proper context because there are times when I think he's wicked - but the delivery of it all is overwhelming and it's not something I can listen to all the time. I have to be in the mood I guess. No disrespect intended, like I said the guy is a genius and much to his credit he pushes the envelope - but I suppose it's not my thing.

I just gave it a listen, and I don't like it.
I like all the songs that they've selected, I mean the original versions.
I really like I Care Because You Do, Richard D James, and Selected Ambient Works.
I had to gave up listening Aphex Twin for a while because I associated his music with two people, one that's dead for me, and the other one that's dead.

aphex = emperors new clothes imo.
some of his melodic early stuff was wicked (selected ambient works etc) but the brainwarp/glitch doesnt do it for me at all im afraid.
i think what he does is he takes music away from the spirit and puts it into the mind - and i know theres always a piece for cerebral music, and without it loads of new trends/sounds/styles would never have caught on, but i just wouldnt listen to it for pleasure.

i hear what you're saying. r.d. james is no doubt a musical genius in his own right, but i rarely find myself in the mood to listen to his music.
if i was having a party with a bunch of people and i put drukqs on the stereo, it would probably clear out the place. that being said, i love i care because you do, and it's probably the only aphex album i find myself coming back to nowadays. timeless work.
hmm... i guess i kind of went back on my opinion there.

I love the guy. An engineering major who builds his own synthesizers -- some sick shit right there. Not too many people have made an entire beat by sticking mics in the corner of a room and bouncing rubber balls around for hours on end. He puts a lot of effort into his work.
