On a side note, I always thought there was more a friendly rivalry between the Jaxx and the Chems. I can't remember where I read it, and it was a long time ago - but someone asked the Chemical Brothers who they would like to fight if they were on Celebrity Deathmatch, and they said The Basement Jaxx. I thought that was pretty funny...

I read something simular when the chems were asked about other dance bands and they said that they feel more threated by independant un and coming djs rather than other dance bands. There were also asked if they think they could have the Jaxx in the fight and they chems thought they could due to a height advantage.

Before I respond to this I would like to say how much I love The Chemical Brothers, they are the best band in the world!

However Basement Jaxx are fucking ace and personally I think there live shows sometimes have a slight edge over the chems in terms of what there is to watch on stage, despite there music being no where near as good and Ed and Tom playing the better music. Jaxx visuals are great and there very entertaining.

Simon was stupid to say that! The Chems allways show respect for other artist and never say that kind of thing. Clearly the chems have lots of variation and different tracks for example Left Right sounds nothing like Surface to air. However maybe when you compare this to a Jaxx album you can see they draw in more styles and influences to each individual track. Despite this I still prefere all the Chems albums over any Jaxx album.

It sucks when bands have a slight dig at each other, but i still think that little is meant by it and that the Jaxx are not trying to slate the chems. Theres allways going to be bands saying things like this and there will allways be band rivalries, for example Prod allways seem to look down on Chems, Faithless don't like Jaxx, and Jaxx Don't like FBS. But im just happy that there all making good music.

I mostly agree, I really like the jaxx but I also love the chems. I think there has always been some sort of rivalry in one form or another. The quote could have been taken out of context and remember he mentions not just the chems put the prodigy too in that 'comment'.

AW fuck you basment jaxx,

you music can be danced to, but ive never been emotionally moved by anything you have ever done.

it is simple music and the lack of change/elements is the reason why you were never up there with the chems, prodigy and norman cook.

you bore me, with your crappy electro-pop shit, please dont make stupid allegations (now some one hook me up with the BJ email adress so i can send this to them)

Basement Jaxx are mediochre, they're best tracks are the b sides, jaxx nite remixes and the dubs. THE best Jaxx track is Razocaine. The albums dont go anywhere, and thats the same with lots of their tracks. WYHA is an amazing song whatever people may think, wether you like it or not it gets the crowds going and everybody knows the Jaxx 'cos of it.

In terms of the comment, i don't really know what to think, to be honest, i couldn't care less, and like the Chems said, the rivalry isnt between the major dance bands, 'cos theyr already established and theyr not going to get much bigger than they are. Its people like Mylo back in the day that would have been threatening.

Simon and Felix are both decent enough blokes and i very much doubt Simon would slag off anyone even if they tore of his leg. Felix on the otherhand is abit like Chris Martin. The fame has got to him, this is proven by the live shows where he clearly lets it all get to his head.

Funny to see everybody losing it and immediately dislikin' the Jaxx boys. Sad, they've made some excellent dance tunes and you can't really place them in the same category as the Chems. And I'd like to see a source so it can be verified they said those exact words, please.

It would be cool if they were like Hip-Hop acts, like Fifty Cent and Da Game, and then Tom and Ed could do a drive by and pop a cap in the Jaxx asses...

Or like Norwegian black metal, where tom and ed could murder the jaxx than make some kinda soup out of thier scattered brains! }:-) (really happened in a feud between two rivaling norwegian black metal bands. other norwegian black metal related crimes include multiple murders, assaults, and several attempted church-burnings) 8O

Just read this here:

"It's like, if you buy an album by the Chemical Brothers or the Prodigy having heard the single, you know, more or less, that the album is going to be the sound of that single, repeated 10 times. We're more haphazard."

So says Simon Ratcliffe from Basement Jaxx. That's such a fucked up comment imo; he could have explained it alot better.

I'm much disapointed with this comment from a member of a band that I appreciate.

Everyone can plainly hear that the Chem's tracks are miles away from a repetitive sample...

There's a girl I know with appalling taste, i.e. she thinks Coldplay and Keane are the greatest bands on earth. She also says Basement Jaxx are the only dance act she rates. I think that says it all really. X-D

I think Basement Jaxx are OK but they're barely in the second division of dance acts as far as I'm concerned. I'd rate the Chems, Orbital, Underworld, Prodigy, Moby, Mylo, Royksopp, Aphex Twin and many others above them.

never been a hugew fan of the jaxx - i think they do what they do well, but the chems are PIONEERS - totally groundbreaking musicmakers - the jaxx arent in the same league tbh. sure they made some pretty pop songs, and there live sets are quite entertaining, but they just dont have the depth or emotion the chems have.

i reckon ed would be quite tasty in a fight X-D

I quite liked the Jaxx until my mother requested their Singles Collection album :(

Jaxx can be quite funky at times but they are a bit hit or miss and they do seem to appeal to the past-it crowd. Chems, Underworld and Prodigy are far more superior!

I like the Jaxx, but just to hear it sometimes. It's too repetitive to be as good as the chems, amon tobin or prodigy...

Regarding Simon's comment... I think he's just teasing the chems :P

Oh yeah, because Galvanize and Hold Tight London sound so much like each other it makes my head spin. Come Inside and Close Your Eyes, come on, they're the exact same song for chrissake! I mean, all the songs on Push The Button are so samey, there's no variation at all!!

Maybe Simon didn't exactly mean just that, but he could've been a little less haphazard with his comment imo.

exactly, i listened to Galvanize and said to myself, shit on that album, it's the same in any case, so i bought the single 11 times . . .

If you don't like Tom and Ed , Okay, If you don't like their music , Okay..but than at least say something that makes sense 8O This is just to say something fucked uo rather than to say something clever. The reason why many people love the Chems is because off the difference of each song on an album...!! If you are into the evil dark stuff , the chems will have something for you. If you are more into psychedelic , melodious music , you will find a tune you like...i mean for fuck sake. Not liking bthe chems is everyone's own opinion , but than at least come with a good argument.

I will never listen to my Basement Jaxx cd again! }:-) MOEHAHA
