cant believe surface2air deleted the 'open letter about push the button and terror attacks'. although it was a wholly pointless and lacking in any substance. it was a well written wind-up that was off the scale from being take serious. i know the thread ended up as an acidchildren and junkie handbags thread, but it should not have been deleted

Well, I think someone was probably playing a joke with us when they wrote that longwinded argument. The wounds are still pretty fresh in regards to the London bombings, and I agree with moving on and all that. But it's just too soon to joke about that, you know? Not here not now... I am glad Junkie's original thread regarding Hold Tight London was closed - there was no substance to that one. It's not often that anyone's posts are edited or threads deleted. I think there was some careful consideration of closing the threads on surface2air's behalf. Just me opinion though.

Honestly wouldn't surprise me if the person was serious. Although, for their sake, I hope it was a windup.....

Saw The Doors (of the 21st Century... heh) last night. Really good show, to be honest. Ian Astbury IS Jim Morrison, I swear. Maybe it was just the drugs and booze, but I had a great time.

Ah, the only upside to being stuck in Minnesota, no visit to the inlaws... actually, I'd rather give whirly's dad a sensual hot oil massage than spend 5 minutes in this flat, depressing shit hole.

The open letter was not a joke. True, it seemed pretty harsh when I read it back to myself. But that was really what I intended it to be? a stinging (but honest) criticism of something that was very important to me.

The Chemical Bros. music was sacred to me. But I had a seriously negative reaction to some things on Push The Button, and wanted to share my reaction with those who created it.

Popular musicians wield so much power through their art ? power to change and influence. Thus, I feel musicians have a responsibility to use that power carefully. By jumping on the slam-Bush-bandwagon, I feel the Chems were irresponsible with their power. Regarding Dylan and the Beatles ? I don?t particularly like their political stuff either. Like my im buddy said about musicians who get political? take drugs, play music and stfu!

I must say I was surprised by the vitriol spewed at me by other posters. For people who surely consider themselves a tolerant bunch, many demonstrated a good amount of intolerance toward someone who holds different opinions (me!). One person, although he/she knows nothing about me except a few paragraphs I wrote, even expressed explicit hatred for me. I would loathe living in that person?s utopia, where everyone agrees on everything and divergent views are verboten.

The fact that the original post was deleted demonstrates that even the board?s moderators prefer to squelch open dialog and the expression of unpopular opinions (relating to politics or Chemical Brothers music).

I agree that the thread shouldn't have been deleted because it was an intresting thread , and it's good that you have your own opinion. But the thing with opninions is , when somebody has a strong different opinion , thats when a discussion comes. If u come on the board with such a strong first post u can expect strong reactions. If u think that's strange and everybody should have a peacefull and understanding discussion , you're very naieve.

And to go on in this topic...

The Chems were irresponsible with their power ?!

Dude....Tom and Ed aren't Bush and Blair u know , THOSE are the people that are/could be irresponsible with their power. I agree , musicians have a lot of influence in the political world , name Bono and Chris Martin that did a lot for World 8. And true , kids listen to what their idols say and represent. But the chems music has always been about peace and love and now they dropped a anti-war track ( Cause that's what Left Right is , Tom and Ed's own words ) you go all insane.

It's exactly like they said themselves , you can't deny whats going on in the world today.
