I hate to say it, but the tracks sounds alot like a Justin Timberlake song.
So top-notch production, infectious vocals, and ready to corrupt a new generation? Yeah, I'd agree with that. These days, comparing anything to a JT track is generally a compliment.
:? , i want you to think about what you just said.
Sorry dude, Timberlake (as supported by Timbaland) is the example of everything that is right with pop at the moment. I'm vaguely contemplating buying tix to his concert when he comes to town. (Although, the vast quantity of attractive young females who will be present are a factor in this decision...).
Well, at the risk of extreme flaming (and being semi-off-topic).... I just got a call from my friend Cathy, she's buying presale tickets for Timberlake tomorrow ... and she's getting me a ticket.
Should be a good show though. Even Pitchfork raved about his live show. Yes, THAT Pitchfork.
haha, oh dear....

Now back to the 'do it again' review.
Ok, am I the only one in here that is bitterly dissapointed by this track. If you people think this is amazing and 'mindblowing' then you are either very easy to satisfy musically, or you have spent way to much time on these forums.
I mean this is just minimalistic techno with an annoying lyrics on top of it (even the tone of the lyrics as annoying), and finnaly when there is a bit of that old chems brilliance in a form of an uplifting break ( I like that synth sound) - it just goes nowhere and stops. I wasn't a big fan of the EBW 9, but even that sounded much better than 'do it again'.
I am really concerned by Chems decision to make this their first single as they usually try and choose the most commercially acceptable track for this - I just hope the rest of the album is much better than this.
I'm not trying to flame the Chems here, but their every song is like a short emotional journey for me, from highs to lows from breakdowns to uplifting synths. This track for me feels like its got nothing - a bit of a simple techno mess with a stupid lyric and...that is it.

0:00 - starting cool
2:20 - I'm scared as fnck that this is going to go 'Crazy Itch' on my ass, but then it goes back into the song *whew!*
3:00 - Cool messy breakdown that sounds... sorta middle-eastern/synthy
3:45 - My favourite part begins. Really fun vocals here, very trippy, makes me happy. There is also a neat 'real' sounding drum as apposed to a simple bass.
4:00 - back to the song and then that *heart attack* 'crazy itch' synth line starts with Pete Tong, with a little guitar. :?
Well, its very catchy and it does kinda remind me of sexyback. I like the parts in the 3 minute area alot. I'm hoping for perhaps some less synthy, more samply stuff in the other songs but this is a pretty good first single.
:) It makes me happy, and thats my review.

Your not alone. I really, really, dont like this track at all. I would bitch and moan, but Tom and Ed have done way too much for me to start complaining now. I hope that this is the only track of its kind on WATN.

Its not that I hate Justin Timberlake and Timbaland that much. I just dont like to seeing the chemical brothers having the same/relating sound with them. :?
Have Fun at the concert!

The best pop music is usually subversive in some way, shape or form and draws from the underground. This is why music is so cyclical: what is initially exciting and new and limited to small clics gets a push and makes mainstream before being copied a million times, becomes dull, and is thrown out.
I'm not saying "Do It Again" is a mindblowing track, among the best of the Chems work, or even the most subversive "pop" track they've made. My opinion is that it is a strong dancefloor track that has some strong pop sensibilities and a very strong dark, sexual vibe that targets the feet and the moneymaker more than the heart and the mind. It's the sort of tune I want to hear when I'm shaking it with a girl on a dark, crowded dancefloor at 4 AM. Without knowing what the other tracks sound like, it also seems to be a decent choice for a lead single.
If this was the only kind of track we could expect on WATN, I'd probably be disappointed too. However, when have Tom and Ed ever delivered an album with one state of mind or mood? Not every track can be, or should be, a Star Guitar or The Test or Hold Tight London.
I think for most people the track will grow on them with time and I certainly think final judgement should be reserved for the extended/album version rather than the edit we heard today. I want to see what is done with the breakdown in particular and the seemingly missing buildup that should follow.
