Prodigy launch label
(Thursday January 18, 2007 12:09 AM)
Prodigy have set up their own label and plan to record a new album as the first release, Liam Howlett has announced.
The group have now ended their long-term relationship with XL Recordings in the UK, following 2005's greatest hits "Their Law".
The label, which is backed by British imprint Cooking Vinyl, will be called Ragged Flag and is expected to release Prodigy material as well as signings made by Howlett and co.
Progress on the follow-up to 2004's "Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned" is understood to be taking shape.
Howlett explained: "We have been planning this for a while and we are looking forward to building our label up, starting off with the release of the new Prodigy album.
"We have recorded a few songs already for this next album and they are sounding big and mean."

He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

For some reason, I wish he could go back to recording something more intelligent, like Music For The Jilted Generation. His latest stuff is too 'big' (as he puts it), aggressive and is trying to seem like its full of attitude. To be honest, it's kinda boring in big amounts... And it's slightly out of fashion, so to speak
He's not trying to do be anything, he's just making music that he enjoys making.

Prodigy peaked with Charly. Been a rapid, downhill descent since then. :P

Anyone know where I can find an extensive Prodigy discography? Specifically, I'm after the remixes they've done for others, I can't find what I'm looking for on the main site. What I really need is a decent fan site, any ideas?
What do you want to know? I've got all the remixes! :D otherwise http://www.the-prodigy.org/ from fellow Dutchie Arie

One can not say AONO sucks for any reason. It's different, i agree. But if it had come out some years earlier all the people and critics that trash it now would have said it's ground breaking and new. Would go that far to say even you Slipvin ;-)
The bridge between expections and what you finally get is always a bit waggly. Things can grow and so happened to me with AONO. I kinda like it now although i disliked it when it was released.
Btw, thanks for the info ipunk! Hope you don't mind if i'm spreading this information elsewhere . . .

I don't know, maybe it's just their whole shtick that got tiresome. The try to sound and look like badass hard cases, but in reality could probably be taken by a couple of twelve year old girls.
There is something nostaligic about them, they sound very 1998.

I think AONO was a reasonably timely album. It predated the rise of the currently trendy electro sound and the July 2005 Erol Alkan set I'm listening to right now reminds me a lot of AONO.
It's different from their albums and obviously is a quite divisive album, but I find I like it more with each listen. I do think I will tire of it eventually, but I don't think it sounds as dated as FOTL.

I have to agree with Slipvin here. It was too big, to agressive, too noisy... I went into AONO not expecting much and that's what I got. I'm not bothered by the fact Prodigy does not suit my tastes.
I've given my in depth thoughts on AONO before so there is no reason for me to repeat myself. It's old news. Onward march, as they say. We'll see what happens with their next album. My ears are open.
