Why would they pick on the French? They don't have any of the magical black liquid Bush loves so much.

The US blackballed the French because they opposed the war, not because they don't have oil. The French government had investments in Iraqi oil under Saddam Hussein's regime - they were protecting their investments just as the US protects their investments with other countries who have questionable governments. For the US to act as a school yard bully (calls to boycott French products, changing menu to accomodate the newly inducted "freedom fries", people in high positions calling the French "cheese eating surrender monkeys" etc.) in the case is, imo, a spade calling a spade.

France has been a good and grateful ally to the US and it's a shame it came down the way it did. One only need to look at the Statue Of Liberty to see the great friendship the two countries once had.

I'm not fully up to date with the situation, but afaik North Korea have ejected weapons inspectors from the country and have re-started their nuclear weapons programme. Apparently they could have a nuclear bomb built in a few months. They have also tested some weapons in the Sea of Japan. And they have an army of 3 000 000 people.

The President, Kim Jung II (I think) has said to Bush that if he cuts off North Korea foreign aid then he will interpret that as a declaration of war. As Bush is more interested in Iraq, he is trying to get China and Russia to sort it out for him.

I think this SARS epidemic will conveniently keep Asia's hands tied for the time being. *eh hem*

Here's hoping negotiations will be sought, not preemtive strikes.

as of this time, north korea have at least 12 short range ballistic missiles with nuclear warheads that could hit san fransisco and LA in 2 minutes, too littlke time to get shot down by patriot missiles from the US. the N> korea goverment kim il jun is probably the scariest government the world has to offer. They HATE America, try multiplyimg Al Quaeda by ohh,say a MILLION! i kid you not,you better believe that there are serious secret negotiations going on between the us and n korea, hopefuly its averted!

and on the israel front......israel have the largest stock pile of illegal chemical, biological and nuclear weapons apart from the us,why are they not invaded?.....well because they are "friends" of the us. There is an unwriten international aggreement that israels illegal weapons will never be inspected by the un,or any other international body,it is the only aggreement of its type in the world and was created in the 50's. god help thye palestinians.........the only person to have ever leaked info about these illegal weapons and take photo's from the nuclear facility was kidnaped by the israeli secret police and has been in solitary confinements for the last 12 years. his name is Mordeky Vannunu.

As you can probably tell i do have a small intrest in international affairs, although conspiracy theorys are NOT my thing!!! this stuff, scary as it is,is all true.

on a lighter note, all come to Ireland, you can stay at my house,i know some great women and theres an off licence 5 mins walk from my house!!!! yey me!

I don't really want to live in fear, but as things heat up with Korea, a nuclear onslaught sometimes pops up in the back of my mind. Especially since I live on the California coast, about 25 miles south from San Onofre which houses a significant nuclear power plant. Or maybe I watched too many nuclear war type made for television movies when I was a kid. ;) I think N. Korea is a real threat no doubt, the world knows they have stockpiles of weapons, the world knows it's government is starving it's people, but the world is too distracted with what's going on in the Middle East. One step at a time.

And about Israel.. if I were to get started someone may misconstrue my statements to be something they are not. Israel has broken nearly 3x the amount of UN resolutions that Iraq did - it's just that the resolutions broken were written under Chapter 6 instead of Chapter 7 (which permits the use of force if negotiations are not feasable.) Israel has been and always will be in bed with the United States. It is unfortunate that in any case where foreign policy is applied forcibly or through negotiations, nothing is as black and white as it appears to be in newpapers.

Now... back to the Chemicals.

Does anyone remember about 2 years ago when Hillary Clinton tried to get them to DJ a sort of 'victory' party - but they declined?

i just thought it was strange how on one hand there is a country,Iraq, that MAY have illegal weapons, and north korea who DO have illegal weapons and have said they are willing to use them on americans.........the reason iraq was invaded........because G.W new he would win, iraq have no army to speak of,N korea however have a well equiped and brainwashed army that would kill their own families if they were told to.

iraq was the soft target.

oh and then theres the oil!

i think we should close this thread though, all tis talk is making me want to go out and do some criminal damage to the us embassy!

the weather is great today here!i love summer, cant wait till the festivals kick off.
