THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS have announced they are to split after 14 years.
The group, who released their album ?Push The Button? this year, have decided to call it a day.
A statement reads: ?All good things must come to an end. And so it is that after 14 years of creating consistently innovative music, releasing three (out of five) critically acclaimed albums and staging some legendary live shows and livesets, Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons have decided to call it a day.
Always regarded as something of an enigma by the media but widely recognised to be one of the UK?s most influential artists, this year?s ?Push The Button? proved not only their most commercial successful but most cohesive and engaging album to date.
Ed Simons said: Yeah, we're through, although it's not officially announced yet. You know, don't misunderstand us; we're really proud of the record and we're proud that we've been able to drift on, just releasing records every few years without really caring. We think we really grasped the mettle and tried to make something fantastic. You know, it's up to other people if they agree, but we're pleased with the record. But all good things come to an end. You know, I just need some time off. I have a family, and because of all the heavy touring it's nigh on impossible to spend any quality time with them, and that just got to me. And I am exhausted, almost on the edge of a nervous breakdown. I just can't bring up the energy anymore.
Tom Rowlands wasn't available for any comments on the subject.
The Chemical Brothers are planning a farewell UK tour in the autumn. A new DVD of the band?s livesets recorded from all over the world is also in the works.
