I still can't figure out Ableton, I know it's good for DJing and whatnot, but I just don't get it, don't know why, don't know how, odd, or I'm just plain stupid.
me neither... maybe it lacks organization.. idk
i prefer acid & fruity loops & recently reason
btw idk how to rewire fruity loops with acid pro!
when i go to the 'rewire' option on acid there's only the reason option
any advise? X-D

I used to use ACID, back in the days of version 2. Up until the new year, I used Cubase SX (not something you can leap into, getting help from someone is a must!), but now I use Ableton. The key to working it out is in the I-O button on the left. That enables all the routing and stuff, which makes life so much easier. The Session View is the way forward, the Arrangement is really for final tarting up. I know I couldn't use just the Arrangement View to produce, it is too complicated. Luckily, the Session View is dead simple!

So you can't say how to manage that arrangement area? How do you do what you do then? The session view is ok, takes a bit getting used to it as a FL Studio user but well . . . Another thing that bothers me is that the lite version offers 4 midi clips and just 4 audio clips at the same time only . . . That's shitty..
E(argasm) = m(usic) x c(hemicals)²

FL is a much better pattern sequencer, but nothing handles loops and audio samples the way Live does (except Acid. And maybe Tracktion, I don't know much about that).
The Session View is a bit like a hardware sequencer for song sequencing. You trigger the loops, and trigger each new loop for a new element. It's a Live way of sequencing (in both senses of the word!) The Arrangement is more traditional, but it's a bit different from Cubase and Acid, so has confused me a bit.
Also, the effects on Live are top notch. Well, the reverb isn't Lexicon standard, and the compressor is garbage, but the others are great.

no hard feelings man. the way i treat acid is very personal, i just hate the damned software since i first looked at it, and found out that making my own melodies is limited, it's just a matter of personal preference. I heard some songs made with acid, which sound just awesome, it's just how creative you are with the stuff you've got.
I had the same feeling about ableton - when I heard that some great DJ sets were mixed in this software I was immediately on it, but no luck with figuring it out.
What i use is Reason 3.0 (good for beats, and great sequencer window), FL (great for loops, and very good for melodies, but sequencer window sucks), and T-racks for mastering, sometimes Cubase SX for mastering too, if I feel like exporting every track to wav. I'm used to that combo, and It's a perfect balance of 'limited-unlimited' posibilities. I don't know about you guys, but I'd rather work with limitations, cause it forces you to experiment, and create new sounds, but when limitations are just too much - I switch to other software and sort my problems there. In the end its all about having fun.
