My mom moved, and unpacked a buncha crap, and she gave me this little ice cream maker.

I made vanilla ice cream with crushed Wonka Bar last night... fuck, it was good.

I think it is important to treat yourself to a fantastic meal a few times a year, even if it costs a lot. It's a treat. I'd love to go to that ninja place and blow a wad of dough, for no other reason than a good meal and just because we could. I'm kind of a picky eater these days, I can eat the same thing day in and day out and it doesn't really phase me. As long as I'm not hungry and I've eaten a balanced meal, it's all good. So when the opportunity strikes to eat some place nice it's a real treat. We normally don't have the cash to blow on fancy meals and I love my son with all my heart but the family friendly restaurants (though some near us are quite good) are so tired! And another thing - there's lots of chain restaurants here. Welcome to suburbia!! And so many of them have themes, these chain joints all look and feel the same to make up for the cut rate "cuisine" they offer.

Whirlygirl is right though, its nice to fine dine once in awhile.

I think my favorite cuisine is Greek, which I can only buy as fine dinning around here (except for all the Gyros sandwiches places.)

yeah that's what I meant, you don't dine delicious every day -- for that very reason, good food and ambience come at a cost

I'm half-Greek ,,their cuisine doesn't excite me much :P

well I like the stews and everything that my grandmother makes

Is saganaki the feta cheese that's covered in brandy and then lit on fire?

traditionally it's 'kefalotyri' or 'kefalograviera,' fried and lit on fire with ouzo.

in cyprus 'haloumi' is the traditional cheese.

Ninja is pretty pricey, but look at the amount of food you get for your money. Pretty vast.

And you can get quite a decent meal for around $50-60, which really isn't THAT bad. Although, as mentioned, not an everyday sort of event.

Not sure what to eat right now. Maybe some broccoli and cheddar cream soup.

All I know is too much french vanilla cappuccino is NOT good for your GI tract. Thank god I got home when I did. :D

hahahaha!!! Sort of like those Starbucks Frappucino's. stash and I had 2 roomates that worked at Starbucks years ago and they referred to them as Crappucino's because of their laxative effects. Unfortunately there is truth to that. I wonder what the intestine squeezing magic ingredient is? Anyway. To this day I can't drink them.

Winnipeggers are so into getting something for nothing, even our most pricey restaurants are VERY reasonable. I took my ex to pretty much every high-class place in town while we were together, including all the regular places celebrities like Brad Pitt and Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez go to when they're in town. Even still, the most I ever paid was $120 CDN for dinner for two, including tip.

Besides the weather, Winnipeg is nice. Especially from an affordable culinary perspective. Far too many suburban, unoriginal places, but so so many fantastic unique places.
