I've only ever seen the Chems play live sets, never any DJ sets.
Since I'm going to Glasto very shortly, can anyone tell me what to expect from a Glint set?
The main headliners on Friday night will be the White Stripes (I liked them way back when but I think they've lost their edge), Fatboy Slim (never seen him play a large set) and "the Chemical Brothers present Glint" in one of the dance tents.
I fancy seeing the Chems again naturally, but friends assure me that the party will be at the Fatboy Slim set and that I'll regret it if I don;t go. They also tell me that the Chems' DJ sets vary a lot in quality, so I could be lucky and get a fantastic set or have a lousy one and miss Fatboy.
So... what exactly is "the Chemical Brothers present Glint"? Will they be DJing themselves most of the time or will it be a series of lesser known DJs?

you can go this glint night. they never made a bad set when it's glint. i saw them at the Queen, in Paris, in october 2003. It was powerful, violent, exciting and marvelous lol. There was very huge records and they are as enthousiast as in live set. So go, you won't regret it !

Seen them dj two times. Once at Coachella before Come With Us came out and once when they were supporting the release of Singles.
Both times were very entertaining, a good mix of tunes that get the crowd moving. During Coachella they road tested/previewed a couple of tracks (It Began In Afrika and Galaxy Bounce) and during the Singles promotion they played a lot more of their own material. No matter what you'll get an ecclectic array of music when you go see the Chems do their dj thing.
From what I've heard, they never play one type of set more than once. I think they pick up on the vibe of the crowd and go from there.
I'm nobody to talk when it comes to being critical of Tom and Ed's skills on the decks, I'm not one to trainspot technicalities when it comes to djing... but it's been said that the Chems aren't the most skilled dj's around. I think the Chems even backed this up in a couple of interviews, but that doesn't mean you won't enjoy yourself during a Chems dj set. Just from seeing them those 2 times and knowing their background when it comes to what they do on the decks, the key to their success doesn't necessarily lie in their technical ability to mix 2 records together, it's all about what they are playing and how they can make it work up there on the decks and on the dancefloor. Plus it's always cool to watch these 2 men at work switching off and on the decks, the expressions they make, and when they put in that tune that really gets em going - it's great fun.
Plus, you never know they might preview some new material never heard before by the masses.

theres only one place to be friday night, fool! seeing the chems!!! ;-) :P
seriously, i thik they've been a bit ambitious putting fatboy slim on the 'other' stage - its a massive stage with a shit soundsystem - it kind of works with bands but i dont think a dj on that size stage is gonne be particularly cool - even if it is good ol norm doing it.
chems in a nice intimate tent is goiung to be intense and fucking psychedlic - ive seen them dj at glasters and they always play a good one.
and as whirly says - surely the lure of them playing new material is a good enough reason in itself??!!??? :D

The first time i ever saw the chems was doing a DJ set in nottingham around the time that come with us came out. Then i wasnt as into house or dance or even the chems for that sake, but i had a wicked night, the music they play is pretty amazing and organic. I wouldnt bother with fatboy unless you want to hear all the music hes sighed to his fucking record label, so expect alot of armand van helden tracks. Its shameless promotion which is how he played when i saw him at radio 1's 1BW in brum last year. Fatboy works better in smaller settings where he doesnt have to play obvious records and can do what he wants.

I saw Fatboy dj at Coachella a few years ago.
It was wicked fun and I enjoyed myself! His tune selection may be more commercial and "obvious" or whatever, but he's got quite the personality up there on the decks, he loves what he does and he really knows how to play a crowd and get them moving.
As far as selection goes, I think the Chemical Brothers have an edge that's got a more far reaching appeal music-wise. Like I said before, their selection is more ecclectic and like Young_fan says, more organic.

i have a few fatboy dj sets which are pretty good but the 2 mix released are not good, for sure...
I think you should go to the chems ;) If Fatboy begin to play some crappy songs from palookaville, you will regress not to be in front of the chemical brothers :P

Don't want to start a new topic. But if anyone wants to see some Glastonbury stuff:

I just saw Fatboy on the telly. I don't think there will be any Chems.
