hello everyone, havnt posted here for a looooong time. anyways, I downloaded Total this morning and have been listening to it all day. It is seriously so good. I expected some good shit to come from sebastian obviously but this album was really more than I expected. For those that have listened to it, what are your favorite tracks? Honestly, the only track i don't like is the title track. Even the short interludes are enjoyable.
There are times during this album where i almost feel like im listening to the first cousin of Justice's "†"; Arabest reminds me of Newjack, Tetra (which i believe Gaspard contributed to) reminds me of Stress, Yes reminds of One Minute to Midnight.
For those of you that have not heard it yet, here is a taste:

Okay--just saw SebastiAn last night live.
I really dig his style and sound in his music. He is somewhere in between Justice and Mr. Oizo, in that his is more frantic than Justice but much more listenable than Mr. Oizo. His moments of intensity are great, and his deep, cutting, electro feel translates well on the dancefloor. He mixed things up really, really well, and brought a good stage presence.
But what a pretentious fucking French asshole. (no offense, Ben_J )
He tried to bring a style to his show that was reminiscent of Pink Floyd's The Wall, where he was presenting himself as something of a political icon that everyone should love and adore. I thought, okay, I'll go along with it and dance. The visuals are intellectually stimulating and in all honest, it had a tremendous amount of potential. Midway through I was prepared to come away absolutely wowed.
But his set stopped abruptly and there wasn't a whole lot of cohesiveness to the visual themes he had going, or maybe I just missed it. I'll allow that I could have failed to truly pick up on whatever he was doing, but from what I saw he was trying for one large political theme with his stage presence, departed from that theme for quite some time, and tried to bring it back and ended up failing to wrap anything up.
So I was left with rather unfulfilled basic expectations for a show. I can say that I enjoyed it, perhaps even immensely when he was on, but I also can say that I felt like he was mostly giving a big "fuck you" to his audience.
It was like watching Lars von Trier film, but not depressing. Similarly sadistic, though...
