Although I don't know much about American football, I know that when a player "scores" in rugby it is called a "try'' (is it called 'touchdown'or something in American football?).
There are two types of rugby in the UK; one is called rugby union (aka "kick and clap" X-D ) and rugby league which is played in the north of England (where I live). I am not a huge fan of rugby but I have watched it on TV in the past and asked somebody about the rules and stuff.
Anyway, I don't think there is a lot of difference between the two games--you could try typing 'rugby football' (not just 'rugby' as it will bring up stuff about a city near Birmingham!) or something into google.
I agree Antype, there is only one 'beautiful game'!!! :)
