its probably not such a bad thing thinking about it. i mean it will be hard to download a decent copy of the tracks cos the internet is flooded with radio rips.

Ahm, yes and no. I agree with you concerning downloading things, although i've done it as well a few times, particularly rare stuff you'll hardly find out stores, but the EBW series isn't released for financial purpose. It's just a dj promo. But if we're concerned about that shouldn't we remove the ones that are on the FTP, shall we?! And what about the remixes that are on it? Don't get me wrong, i'm also pissed off that Biff's fixes are being selled as an original everywhere although it isn't.

EBW 1 - It doesn't matter (as found on Dig your own hole)

EBW 2 - Don't stop the rock remix (as found on Elektrobank CD2)

EBW 3 - Under the influence remix (as found on Singles '93-'03 CD2)

EBW 4 - Freak of the week (as found on Music:Response CD)

EBW 5 - It began in Afrika (as found on Come with us)

EBW 6 - Hoops remix (as found on Get yourself high CD)

EBW 7 - "Acid children" (as found on Galvanize CD2)

EBW 8

EBW 9

Since I have the vinyl...

Under the Influence is not nearly like either the album version or mix 2 from the singles bonus disc... Freak of the week is identical to the music: response version... It Began In Afrika is similar but diff from the EP track and album track: it has several longer bits (total about a minute + half), lacks those lovely tearing screeches at the last buildup, and is titled 'It came from afrika'...

since you have EBW 5 on vinyl, which is the only one I'm looking for, what would you say is a decent price to pay for it? And if I read your reply it isn't that different from the single version, is it?

I paid $25 canadian (around 17?) for it. it's a decent vinyl though I prefer the version on the single personally except for length.. (yes they are pretty similar though)

personally I like the resonance you get in the low-mid range on CDs over that of vinyl -- because vinyl costs so much to sound not like crap (power massagers, proper amps, perfect turntable, etc)

whose done this taking pete tong off his moment of glory job btw? it's pretty fuckin good. the original file had very low volumes, n this one i can pump as much as i want. tho i'm still attached to that version since i've been hearin it forever now.

thanks whoever's done this nice job anyway once again, pete tong was really gettin into my head. infact he did. has. is.

this is certainly the most (very short :( ) beautiful euphoric love is all tune i've heard ever.

holy fuck.

i had posted earlier just hearin the beginnning.

i found out later there was patchwork done in the end which was very shoddy - basically at 5.14, where Pete starts talkin again on the original there's a beautiful synth progression that just starts n is a beautiful melody to end the song, my fav part n it doesn't come the first time around - that whole part's gone 90pc off on the fixed file.

anybody has any idea what i'm sayin?

we want the original!!

Aren't It Began In Africa and EBW5 identical :?

Both vinyls have identical etching in the run-out groove (CHEMSTDJ12), which could mean they used the same mother plate for it, which means its the same version? I never really knew where the 10-minute version of IBIA comes from 8O Thought it was the whitelabel vinyl with 'Chemical Bros AFRICA' stamp on it, but from what I heard, it's a bad quality booty... This is still a grey area for me :(

Ah anType, I am sure someone knows who can set the record straight (pun intended!) I wish I could say it's me, but alas...

Ed himself said he couldn't be bothered to time it, even though he has a few copies of EBW5, which is fair enough (image of Ed with a stopwatch next to the turntable with EBW5 on it would be priceless tho :P)...

ahaha, the riddle of the stop watch!!! X-D X-D

I still think your Chemical Bits site was the ultimate discography, you worked so hard on it and it was such a fantastic resource. I hope you can put it up again some day. *hint hint, nudge nudge, wink wink* Get back to work, son!!!

Yeah anType, Chemical Bits was really useful here, I used to see what version my imported singles were. Hope it's back someday... :D

what parts? this is exactly the same version pete tong played. u might have been hearing Biff's fixed version which has ended up with that amazing synth melody at the end being stripped out while takin pete tong's vocals out - it kicks in at 5.18 i think on the pete tong version and it's my fav part - it doesnt exist on biff's version - thanks for this wonderful link Consumer - really really glad could find the end like it is without tong on it.

That explains it. I didn't bother letting my ears try and decipher the parts where Pete was talking over the top. :)

i tried to raise this pt yesterday also. noone caught me, i guess everyone's been hearin biff's fixed version. i personally didn't like it, except the volumes it offers. the whole mix has gone for a toss because of that fix job - the song's got much more treble and the mastering is nothing like the original pete tong dropped.

infact i've gone back to hearin the radio version till the original's out since biff's job took out my fav synth. anyone else feel that's the BEST part of the song at 5.18, EXACTLY when the mumfuck decides to come back? :(
