Kind of a rude question to ask don't you think? Here's Tom's response on twitter: "to all those people asking we will be DJing this year, no live concerts are planned" "to those other people asking what the difference is-especially you good people of colombia- a DJ set is when we play vinyls, cds etc,cont..." "a mixture of our own and other people's music" "a concert is when we bring our many electronic instruments+studio gear and create our own music live ." "hope this clears it up,thanks for the interest"

I'd think it would be a little more obvious with a group like them what the difference between their concerts and DJ sets are, right? I mean it's not like with Deadmau5 (all due respect, he's a talented guy) where his live sets are basically audio-visual blowout DJ sets of his material.

I don't think it's a rude question so much as basic ignorance. This has been something that electronic music fans have been commenting on for years, and it does not appear that this question, and others like it, are going to go away anytime soon.

From what I understand about Deadmau5, even his DJ sets are a bit more involved with equipment-ish things in a performance-like aspect, but I'm not 100% certain what he does and doesn't do in his sets in general.

I didn't think it was rude, but I think it's a good thing that Tom laid out what's what. I'm glad people have been asking, and there is an answer from the source.

Hopefully that will prevent any disappointment with live show expectations and people will come to their gig knowing its a dj set.
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

Also the dj sets miss the visuals.
This was required. A lot of idiots at Future Music saw the YouTube videos of Glastonbury or other recent live shows/Dont Think trailers, n expecting that kept complaining, n missed the amazing Dj set. ( like no other on earth n across the universe).
These DJ sets are not o be missed, if you have a chance people.

I think this type of question may come from people, who were never lucky to catch them neither live nor as djs. Because you'll never forget your first live show :D
So, I guess, the query is appropriate.
E(argasm) = m(usic) x c(hemicals)²

It was only a couple of years ago I would have asked the same thing, so unless you already know other musicians that DJ and play live, you probably won't know.

Seeing the Chems do a DJ set is right up the top of my bucket list.
Further Remixed There's nothing else...

I havent seen them DJ for yonks. 2005 i think it was. BEfore PTB anyway cos they dropped Galvanize first up. Always a good sign when they DJ that new stuff is imminent.
Plus i always like the surprise of them playing other peoples stuff. Smokebelch and Kittens used to massive favourites for them. I have had many missions trying to find some of the more obscure stuff they played.
Actually while i am here, there was a tune they used to play around 2003/4 which had sample of ""what we gonna do is go back" over and over. ANyone have any idea what this was?

Was it by any chance "Higher" by Impulsion? The only version I could find online doesn't have the vocal sample but perhaps you'll still recognize it:

Regardless of what the song was the sample probably came from here:

yes thats the one, i recognised it even though i havent heard it for years. It was on a live mix they did for some radio one event. yeah i thought the sample might not be connected to the record but thanks for digging that out. made my day

Well ordinarily the song does have that sample in it, it's just that the only version I was able to find was instrumental. If you can track down the recording of their DJ set at Coachella 2009 you can hear it like you probably remembered it.

its pretty cool that they have been playing that track out for so long. I remember it from years ago. Kinda makes me think its them under a pseudonym

If so it's a very intricately-constructed pseudonym, one of the members is from the Micronauts.

Not always, sometimes he plays tracks from other producers (Feed Me and Noisia comes to my mind).

That's what Kid Koala is for.
He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

Yikes. Has he ever heard of Underworld or Orbital? I appreciate his honesty on that, but not everyone just "hits play."
