I'm in no position to say that any music is fucking bad , because that is just my opinion.

But i can't STAND this bloody emo stuff nowadays. Like My Chemical Romance , and this new band 30 seconds from Mars , and lets not forget , whats their name , with the guy with the annoying typical american high-school voice , ehm OH YEAH Fall out boy.

Why be so depresive man. I understand that those people feel the need to make music about being depressive , but all the people that listen to it and look the same are ALL depressed.Their actually not but they are emo so hey will find a reason to be depressed. " I lost my new black lipstick , now i am so sad that i feel the need to share that with the world by looking like i'm about to die"

And they always sit in cirkles on the floor in the central station.

Sorry i', no people hater , in fact i LOVE people , but i just cant stand this whole movement !!

Many people understand the emo hate so it's ok Jeani0. When I went to Download Festival there were metallers actually HUNTING emos X-D my emo mate actually joined the metallers group in search of emos to be destroyed, cheeky fook.

I also remember a guy telling me that he was on the bus once and this emo was by himself. The bus came to a stop and a load of emos jumped on and knew the emo already sitting there. They started talking about this song they really love and they identified with it...and then they all started crying! 8O

Yikes, Jeanie I am surprised at this post!. Music, yeah - but the kids themselves... you are starting to sound like me "what is the matter with all these damn kids today???" X-D Theres always got to be some new movement, or some new niche - yeah. In everyones quest to be different, really in the end the birds of a feather flock together. And it is a phase, a current lifestyle choice. You grow up and out of it eventually. Like the Dead Heads eventually moved on and got jobs, the PLUR candy kids ditched the big pants baby teether necklaces and bad trance, and the punks eventually got jobs, too and maybe they decided to give soft rock a try. Any movement eventually gives way to another niche that is equally as annoying as the last - to the outsider.

Most emo kids really are not depressed, they just look like they are. Or they are just kids looking for a place to belong or they might have shit going on in their lives that come out in the music they listen to, the clothes they wear or the circles they hang out in. Maybe in a way, the depressed music they listen to makes them happy because they know they are not alone. And I worked with a few emo kids, and they were all right. I know, because I used to get that all the time when I was going through my little goth phase (hey, I still wear black and dye my hair black, too - you can take the girl outta the goth, but you cant take the goth outta the girl). I got sick of people asking me if it was halloween, and the jokes about the make up or the lacey clothes and pointy boots - the best was when people would pull their children out of me and stashs way when we walked by. Sort of like a parting of the Red Sea, but not really. The best was when we got cornered in a Victorias Secret by an evangelical Christian who tried to convince us that going to church would help turn our dark ways around, hahaha. Then we discovered raves, and raves were good and even though we were the only goths in the place, everyone checked their prejudice at the door - the great equalizer where everyone is the same when their hands are in the air and their feet are on the floor.

Anyway, its all just phases til the next wave comes around.

That is irritating as hell! Nothing worse than a shiny clean car and some bird has to come around and take a crap on it. Birds are more crafty than we give them credit for!

The most nasty bird-crap-on-car experience I had was a few years ago the family and I drove to this place called Ports O'Call. It wasn't really planned, we just sort of ended up there. It changed a lot from when I was a kid and it's quite a skany joint nowadays. But anyway, it's right on Long Beach harbor and it's cool to see the giant cruise ships and massive freighters go by - so we parked the car and had a walk around for an hour. When we came back, seagulls had crapped all over my windshield. It was like I had driven through a sh*t storm, as did just about every other car in the lot. Seagull poop is the nastiest, most vile substance. It reeks something awful, and it's like a giant messy dollop of mucus that congeals and bakes right into whatever surface it happens to land on. I wasn't going to even try using my windshield wipers because then it would be a milky smear, so we drove to the nearest gas station where I could use a squeegee and some paper towels. I must have spent a good 10 minutes removing the crap from my windshield - and it takes a lot to make me gag but this experience came close. Blegh.

Yeah Whirly you are right.

My point is tho , that , at least here in Holland , a lot of those kids really will find a reason to be depressed. U know what i mean ?! I mean i had a LOT of shit going on in my life , and that translated in the music i listened to ,so that part i understand. But what i dont get is that they think its cool to hate the world.

I mean , the world , life , everything is so much more fun when you're positive. But , it also took me 21 years to learn this , so i might give those people another chance.

There's nothing wrong with those kids , really. I mean when youre younger its just safer and more secure to belong to a 'group'. I just prefer to look at smiling hippies with flowers in their hair.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think it's a teenager's job to find something to be depressed about (well, most teenagers anyway). hehe, sorry to throw the age card into the pile!! We'll see what happens when my son goes through his teenage years, slamming his door saying "you hate me and I wish I was never born" and all of that. X-D Right now for me it feels like an entire lifetime ago and I went through periods where I hated the world and everything in it, but life is sweeter when you have a better attitude. But then again I have lots to be happy about. I do remember what it's like being that age, and it sucks when you feel insignificant - and I wouldn't go back in time and be a teenager again for all the tea in china. OK - maybe I'd go back to being 19, because I had a blast being old enough to know better but too young to care. ;) I think the 'tude adjustments just come with time.

As for who I'd rather look at, I'd be lying if I didn't smile a little bit when I see a cute little goth or punk couple walking down the street. They may be angry with the world but they got each other.

I came of age on alt-rock, listening to some of the most depressing and introspective stuff around. Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, and Nine Inch Nails were my Holy Trinity. Nothing wrong with tapping into some negative feelings once in a while. 'Mellon Collie' is still my favourite album because it encapsulated my existence so perfectly at the time (and still does, I think).

I actually don't have a problem with most of the emo bands or emo kids. I don't think My Chemical Romance or 30 Seconds From Mars are great, but they've got a few alright songs that I don't mind. And I don't think most emo kids are really all that depressed, it's just a fashion scene more than anything.

When I was that age, it was all about being either punk or goth. I never really got into it very much (well, not goth anyways), but it's just something that happens. As you age, there are different standards and trends that most people adhere to because they want to fit in. When you're in your late-20's and on, the majority of people do their best to appear "respectable" because that's what's expected of them. I don't find that any more inherently good than being emo to fit in.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this really, but I think it's a phase that most people go through. It's about coming to terms with the fact that the world really doesn't give much of a crap about you and people deal with it in different ways. Sometimes there's beauty to be found in the ugliness and sometimes things just suck.

I dont think there's anything wrong with feeling doen every once in a while either. In fact , i think sadness is a beautifull emotion. And i like to cry. I really cry a lot because i like it !! And if i feel sad i dont ignore the feelings but i allow them to be there.

But i know some of those kids that really WILL find everything depressing !!

I used to be a total metal-head when i was 16. If u see pics of me you'll laugh youre ass off. I had spikes around my neck and everything. Ive always been different than most kids at school, And i WAS depressed because i had a horrible time at school. So yeah like i said that part i understand. But in Holland those kids are just ... i dunno. SO dramatic man. But its the music i hate most. I cant stand My Chemical Romance.

We all go trough a phase , offcourse.

My only point is , don't be so fucking dramatic u know.

Aww Jeanie we all know what kind of person you are and you are a good person who strives to be happy!!

I can do without the dramatics that seem to exude from a lot of the sub cultures - be they goth, emo, whatever. A lot of it is real, but a lot of it is blown way out of proportion, too. And I dont really like drama anyway. I try to avoid it at all costs even if it means taking the path of least resistance. And finding a reason to be dramatic even when there is no call for it is really annoying which I think is one of the reasons why stash and I stopped going to all those goth and industrial clubs we used to frequent. Though the dramatic hissy fits out on the smoking patios served as pretty good entertainment! X-D
