ah You wrote before that it had a batt life of 30 MINUTES and I was thinking. Now why the hell would any want something like that?
it seems like that sony has the edge over ipod in almost every category. and it's only 12 pounds more (which i think is well worth it for all the benefits). Read some reviews online that compare all of them and see what they have to say.[/b]

:? -- the Sony is just so... incredibly ugly! Maybe it's just me...
Also, don't trust the battery life statement from either companies: The Sony one and the iPod will both give you around 8 hours life or less, especially in Iggy's case, as you refuse to listen to low-quality mp3s.
If I'm not mistaken, the Sony battery life quote is when listening to a continuous playlist of 64kbps files (and the iPod quote is done using 160kbps files, with playlist switching, etc). One must consider that you'll be using files probably at about 256 -320kbps (I'm guessing here) and that you likely won't listen to one playlist continuously without pausing, skipping, fast-forward, etc, or even switching playlists entirely.
Furthermore, and this is the point I always make, there is a reason the iPod is the best selling player, and this factor isn't easily compared with the sort of comparison posted; the iPod is the one that just works. And it feels right. You just plug it in, don't think about it, and it works. Browsing on the iPod is perfect, as the scroll wheel is designed for humans. Finally, it's the balance between all the features where the iPod wins out; everything comes together just wonderfully and there are little touches that do make a difference.
notes:
- the iPod was the first player allow the hard drive to contain data files; all iPods have this capability, mini or otherwise
- the iPod is cheaper...
- the damage prevention system (protects data in falls) was designed by Apple and they filed for a patent over a year ago
- Firewire is faster than USB
