anyone know how the dj set will compare to their live performances? i saw them live at Nocturnal about two years ago... one of the greatest things ever. do they play their own stuff along with others' or just others'?

Gracias

Hi dgraff81 -

According to the home page:

___________________________

"The Chemical Brothers appearance is a DJ set only, meaning they will be playing other material besides their own catalog of dance-floor staples in a more casual performance devoid of all the bells and whistles."

___________________________

The Brothers will be playing other peoples' tunes along with their own (and likely some re-edits) sprinkled in.

There's no comparing a live set to a dj set. They're 2 different things entirely and lend a different vibe. The live show at Nocturnal (like all their live shows) are a spectacle of sound and vision with the symphony of gear that they tinker with and over-the-top visuals to sear our retinas while we're dancing. And their dj sets go back to how it all began by getting back to basics with the focus on the 2 men, a whole lotta records and how people out on the floor are responding to what's being played.

It's going to be good fun!

I would describe the DJ sets as less intense, but still absolutely immense. You're not going to be able to experience the Chems performing their own music in the way that they do during their live sets, but you will still be able to experience their absolutely amazing ability to bring the crowd to an awesome peak. :)

Sounds good... thanks guys! I'm excited to see something new (for me) from them. I know they'll be awesome... I'm taking my gf down to see them and another friend and wanted them to experience an amazing show like I did. Chems are the best. Peace.

Get ready to get ear-raped people! Hola dgraff81!

Got me a rented Yaris for the drive to Indio! The truck that I wanted to take is about to be put out of its misery very soon so it can't make the drive out there with it.

Oh what a feeling!

And I will be driving my gets-good-gas-mileage Yaris out to Indio. Woohoo - Chemical Yaris' unite.

(Dorky post, I know)

How's the Yaris anyway? I have no preference in vehicles but that car had the best deal on the Enterprise site.

Only 42 dollars for the weekend plus unlimited mileage.

I love my Yaris! hahaha! Really I do.

I don't know about the automatic transmission since mine's a stick shift, but it performs well in 4th and 5th gear - it's not a plush ride, but has enough pep for being an econobox. The gas mileage is great even if it's an automatic transmission. It gets about 35 city and 40 hwy, a little less if you have the air conditioning on.

I have a 2 door hatchback, but I think the same holds true (gas mileage) for the 4 door.

I believe all come with an auxiliary jack so you can plug your ipod/mp3 player in as long as you have the auxiliary cord.

It's a bit of a clown car (at least mine is) since it looks small on the outside but it's fairly roomy on the inside. The only thing is if you're 6 ft tall or over and you're driving a stick, you might find the leg room to be a bit cramped in the driver seat. Should be fine with an automatic, though. Another thing is the instrument cluster including the tachometer, speedometer, stereo, a/c knobs are smack dab in the middle rather than on the driver side. It's a bit weird to get used to when you're used to everything clustered on the driver side.

$42 bucks for the weekend plus unlimited mileage is a great deal on a rental car.

I'd take the 4 door, I only drove a stick once so I'll go for an automatic, but I could see myself in a Yaris. The Honda Civic Hybrid in which I think goes for 40/40, would be my first choice though.

You won't see me at the beer gardens but

I could really go for one of those lemonade ice squishies right now!

To all who go to Coachella :

- First, you're lucky, I wish I were you etc...

- Then, you obviously read what Tom wrote in the fabric thread : "we spun 3 or 4 new works in progress and they seemed to go well... no doubt some of you will be treated/subjected to them in coachella next week..."

So, it would be great if anyone filmed (or recorded) the whole show in order to have an idea of what the Chems are planning :D

Thank you !

3-4 new tracks....hhhheeeeeelllllllzzzzz yessssss. I'll do my best to video tape any new stuff. It's kind of a hassle to bring a camera to big festivals like these because half the time you're worried about losing it.

PS. Pooter, I got your voice message today. LMFAO  . (he serenaded me the star wars theme song using only the words Bosco and my name.)

And yes, I'm as stolked as you brah! I just got my tickets for the whole weekend for REALLY cheap. Thursday my vacation starts! Can't wait to see all you guys there w00t!!!!!

Sweeeeet - my weekend starts Thursday, too.

It's going to be a hot one in the desert on Saturday. Weather forecast says 94 degrees in the day and 63 at night.

Don't count on me to take any videos or pictures during the Chems. I'll be too busy dancing/trying to keep myself from dropping to ground out of sheer dehydration. :P Plus, we're having a bit of a camera dilemma. Our cheap camera is lightweight and easy to carry around but any movement and the picture is blurry. Our nice camera (a Nikon coolpics) takes incredible pictures but is a pain in the ass to lug around. Decisions decisions.

OK. Starting to get giddy. I'm SOOOoooo looking forward to this weekend and getting to see all of you!

The set times have been posted:

Chems are not closing out the Sahara tent (they are going on before mstrkraft - sort of a wtf in my opinion but hey. We know who's tops).

Same here! We ALL know who deserves to close it out! But on the flip side, and nothing personal, the Crystal Method closes the Sahara on Friday!!!

Maybe the Chems choose that time or maybe their was scheduling conflicts or something.Don't know, but what I do know is that most of the crowd will probably leave after when the Chems finish.

Maybe the Chems have a curfew ;)

..and on the plus side for me it doesn't conflict with Mastodon (which I have not seen yet!)

yeah, i didn't hear of mstrkraft until recently (although I recall seeing their name on synth sites), but the old man in me is kinda happy that the chems are playing at 9:30 since I cannot for the life of me stay up late since I started my new job. Buuuuuuut in all actuality I know I'll be able to stay awake for this. even if it requires a few of those jack-off energy drinks ( referring to 75% of their consumers, not the alleged purpose of the drink).

it does suck that they're on for only 90 minutes !@$!#.

Yes, their curfew is based on the boys being jet lagged. :P

As for the hour + set? It's Coachella. I don't think anyone ever plays for more than an hour and a half.

I know I probably won't stick around to see mstrkrft.

1. That sucks that MSTRKRFT is getting the headlining slot. I also will throw in a w-t-f.

2. Better an hour and a half than only an hour for their set.

3. After a lot of pissing and moaning and disbelief, I'm still going. I sent a text to a number of you stating that it was over for me, but apparently not even the I.R.S. can keep me from going to Coachella. YEAH!!!

4. Ed, if you read this, just one thing: the desert crowd will be stomping to some insane CHEMICALLY LADEN BEATS! That's a fact. Oh, it's going to be a fucking party, man!
