This one is for the people who have seen the Chemical Brothers more than once - this goes for dj sets as well:

What's the best Chemical Brothers show you've ever been to? And why? You don't need to write a full-on review or anything, if you don't want to ;) What made the night for you - was getting there and back part of the grand adventure? Did you go with a great group of friends? Did you end up going at the last minute? Is there no time like the first time? Did something happen to you that really set that night apart? Etc. etc. etc.

I'll start.

The best Chems show I went to *so far* was Coachella when they were supporting Come With Us. The whole weekend was a brilliant adventure!! So much fun! From meeting up with my friends the night before for the first time after I'd been corresponding with them for a few years, having a big ol slumber party with these people and staying up waaaaaaay to late, waking up in a house full of crazy fuckwits ready for the day, the long hot walk to the venue which was more like a death march, trying to fight back the Bjork fans while waiting for the Chems... to that breaking moment when Come With Us started blaring through that giant grassy field, and being taken on that musical journey of epic proportions. And lastly that feeling of renewed energy after the show which gave us the stength to make the long trek back to the house where we were staying.

OK, maybe this should be in the Sets forum, but I'm going to put it here instead because I think it's a bit more relfective than "in the moment."

Aw I'm sorry anType! I don't mean to be exclusionary - I honestly believe that for you your time will come - I think all your hard work and dedication to this band will be rewarded somehow - the universe always works itself out. And that as far as the Chems shows go, the best is yet to be offered.

Honestly, if you ever do get the chance to see them, aT, I bet half the regular forumites would travel to be there if possible and just see how much you enjoyed the show. I know I would if the money is available. To wait so long and to want it so much, it would be awesome to see someone's dream fulfilled like that.

Makes me really wish I'd seen the Pumpkins (especially when they played here on the Mellon Collie tour --> They played The Aeroplane Flies High!!!).

guesstimate cost of Chems to play in Malaysia: $500,000

concert ticket: $45

average cost of 5 day trip to Malaysia for 1 adult forumite: $2000

look on anType's face at a Chems show: priceless

Well, the second time I saw them was special becuase it was a Chemical Brothers gig, not them as part of a festival, so they knew we were there to see them and they left us feeling better than human. The third time was my chemiracle experience so that was very special too, but if I have to choose it would be the first time I saw them: January 2000.

Basically it just changed my whole approach to experiencing their music and they became my favourite band of all time. It just blew my mind how they could re-arrange their tracks and make them sound even better! The next day I went out and bought a Future Music mag and started looking for hardware to buy; I wanted to do what they did so bad.

Also after being at that show I started to search record shops for all their old stuff and began to take note of news of any new releases.... I wanted to find every single nano-second of Chems music I could treat my ears with.

Now everytime I get the Surrender CD out of its case I see the ticket from the 2000 Big Day Out under the plastic beneath the CD and I remember that first gig. 8)

I'd have to say the third time I saw them in Cologne 26 february 2005. I travelled abroaght for it would a dear friend of mine and I met some nice people over there. But just the show and the tunes and the place I was standing. Awesome. Surface to air, Believe and TPPR were so wonderfully played that evening.

still my favourite live tune is Flashback at Lowlands 1999

I was there for that gig! it was a glint night i think?i was all of 15 years old! that was the first time i ever saw them and it was quality. Distinct memories of the smoke machine going crazy and hearing a big booming IT BeGaN iN AFrICa- kka akakakkaka pump out of the system!

I ve seen them three times, all different. the last time was wolves and that was good cos i was like there just to see them, but at creamfields it was good cos it was part of like a whole wiked day!

Id probably say that the creamfields set was great cos i'd jus danced and drank etc all day listening to great djs and it was just casually like "oo the chems are on now, lets go chek em out, on the outdoor stage" that was the first time i heard EBW 7 live after hearing it on pete tongs show in ibiza. It was also the first time i had seen a live set, so thats probably why its my favourite gig aswell. Thats probably the point tht i became a pretty big fan and paid more attention with regard to getting the rest of the albums i dint have.

Just have great memories of that day.

May 20th, 1997. The Masquerade - Atlanta, Ga.

It was my first time to see the Chems. My first EDM event. Went with a big group of friends. Got to briefly meet the Chems. My life was changed forever.

you may recall this little post about said event I made last October:

http://forums.theche...ht=loops+purple

Thesouphead Escribi:

Paper begining to kick in.....walls are moving........grins of fear and panics of joy. I hear the silence. Female vocals make the hair on my neck stand up. Purple rotating lights shine from the robots on stage. Soothing..so southing....flutes spiral round the room......"brothas gonna work it out....brothas gonna work it out". She calmly sings again.."brothas gonna work it out....brothas gonna work it out". STROBE-LIGHT EXPLOSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Fury Of bass pounding Loops activate the springs on the shoes of those who surround me. I, in the middle melt into the warmth of the soundwaves crashing over me. Beams of color across the walls prove to me that the sounds I hear are true.

...and that was just the into and the first song. I am still unable to describe TPPR.

:D
