what do u say to not clearing up the spam for a bit? just to point out to virgin how bad the spam really is?
if they keep getting pissed off then maybe something will be done quicker.
just a suggestion, all views welcome :)

Hey mipps!
I am pretty sure Virgin has some idea of how bad the spam's gotten with the flare up we had here earlier this week. Maybe Ed had a few choice words with the powers that be. ;)
I am just glad there is a means to get rid of the spam now and bring this place back to normal (as normal as normal can be!).

I have to disagree Mipsy! It's so nice we are finaly able to delete the spam and have a nice clean board again. I think if Ed has a word with them that will hopefully help. lets just keep the baord clean like we used to do , so that at least we dont have to use Ben's forum ( No offense ther4e , ben! I think youre forum is great! Its jsut not the real thing u know ;) )

as I said to mips t'other day. locking the mod account just highlighted the volume of spam being posted here.
with everybody deleting a little each time they logged in things weren't too bad.....couple of days later and the place is flooded.
to be honest I think the people at virgin are aware now and I'm sure if they weren't aware quite the extent of the problem then ed's filled them in. he seemed really quite annoyed when he posted the other day.
I'm sure things will be sorted soon and to me it seems a bit daft, some of the comment on here. getting narcy with the mods/virgin staff putting stuff in your sig. let them get on with it....not getting at anyone just you know...chillax as somebody we know would say...
anyway. love is all - I'm off to listen to this and tidy me flat:

Ive seen the light with Ben_J's forum, and its a beauty. I would miss all the old threads and memories we had on this message board just like everyone else, but thats life. You cant hold on to something forever, you gotta move on. I know this is the "offical" messageboard, but the Admin's who have ran it have treated this place like shit! They see this place as a tool, not an important assest for communation for die hard fans around the world, or even straight communation with our leaders (Tom and ED). The unoffical message board (Ben J's) is run with LOVE, not money, LOVE. And thats how it should be in here as well.

to be honest, i love ben_j's board....its like having a mistress....new and exciting....and WAY better than what your used to. and unless this board gets a new pair of breasts....sorry i mean new software im just not gonna be happy with it like i used to be.

I love Ben_j's board, too and I am grateful for it. Aesthetics-wise, I love the way it's set up with the different forums to keep things topical, I love that we can have avatars, I love that we can still swear if we want to, and above all I love that it's not invaded with spam. Functionality-wise, I love that we can edit and delete our posts which gives us more autonomy.
Right now, it does have an edge on this place. It's shiny and new and it's protected. I find it easier to just go on there, post what I want and in general have a good time and not have to worry about logging out then logging back in to get rid of spam. I hate bitching about the spam because there's not much we can do except delete it, but damn. It's such a pain in the ass to deal with when we all can spend more time posting and contributing for cryin' out loud!!
Bosco, I totally see your point about not being able to hold onto something forever. It is a sad fact of life - I've seen plenty of messageboards and communities disband over time and people move on and go their seperate ways. But to me it's one thing to move on because your interests and priorities change, it's another to move on because you are forced to - and IMO the latter would be a depressing end to what we've built here on this board.
And yes you are right, of course this board is the domain of the label and it's a marketing tool. But this place is only as great as we make it and in the end it's our love of being here on account of the music first that's been the most instrumental in keeping this place going for as long as it has.
What I really want are some answers, some timelines and a little insight on what's to come and we'll only get that from the admin.

Not to undermine Benji's efforts, I like the other board too, but I'll be honest - I've got too used to the bright colours and the general interface on this board - I really don't have much problems - I'm not the kind who need a lot of jazz with avatars and all the stuff on mssg boards - keep it simple and it works for me! Just like this board, I love this!
And the mods have been doing an awesome job - u should just keep throwing pms at the admin everyday with an update on how many spam threads u delete everyday!! Just to keep the joker in touch. And keep bumpin that bumpy thread so Ed knows how much effort's goin into keepin this board clean.

mmm some interesting responses here!
i thhink that the most frustrating aspect is, like ed said, it doesnt happen to other boards so it shoudlnt be happening here.
also i get the impression from the admins and to some extent ed's posts that they dont or at least didnt realise that the way the spam gets kept down is by a bunch of regulars.
i dont think its fair to expect a bunch of fans to maintain there board when if the right software was implemented there would be no need for them to do that.
also, the way admin pops in for maybe an hour a week and generally left the board in a worse state certainly didnt help matters.
i guess my theory behind not deleting the spam was the 'tough love' idea. a bit like giving ur baby a spank hahaha. if this place became deserted and over-run by spam they might be inclined to do things a bit more urgently.
however, i think whirlys post with questions for the admin is a great idea - part of the frustration comes with not knowing whats going on.
now if only he'd come back and answer the damn thing :?

The cleaner a-bunch-of-us-who-have-access-to-surface2air-account keep this place, the more admin & company will think that they've fixed the board and strangled the spambots.

Well , i like Ben's board a lot , he did a great job and i am very thankfull. Howeer i keep on loggin in on this one and than after i check Bens board. I'm just so used to this board ! And so many memories! So i'm gonna stick with this one as long as its not crazy out of control like last week. I'll say hi on the other board to tho ! ;-)
