I liked DIA from the beginning. I liked EBW8 and 9 but I got to say I really don't know what to think now :(

I love how the harmonies switch from minor to major and reverse; pure euphoria in EBW 10. Catchy melody, good build-ups and craaaazy sound effects- thats what chems tracks are all about.

I'd love it even it wasn't labled as chemical.

Ah, I do like the bassline.

It's fresh. It's like a soundtrack for raod trippin'.

I know a lot of people around here have been praising it for sounding like Bizarre Love Triangle, but I think it might be a little TOO much like it. We all know the Chems are New Order fans, but the melody here sounds a bit like a riiiiip offfff.

I think that is what's bothering me about the track - the lack of uniqueness about it. EBW 8 and 9 were so dangerously different and, as other forum members have pointed out, this one borrows nearly ALL of its ideas from previous(recent) Chems tunes.

Gillenium, for me it's alright that it borrowed because sometimes you want to go in thousand different directions with one track, because of thousands ideas you have in your mind. This might be such a tune where they came up with lots of ideas which emerged in other tunes in the end like Saturate or stuff. That's alright for me. Imagine, they had 50.000 files.

The complaint about sounding like Bizarre Love Triangle is ok but don't bother me at all. In the end of the day there are just a few parts sounding slightly like it. Not the whole track. And by the way, what can be bad about a great inspiration from a great band? Almost every artist is influenced by his/her idols or bands they love. I doubt they forced it to sound like New Order.

As for me, I had a huge grin on my face when they were playing it live and it got wider when the guitar came in. That's all I want: grinning + dancing.

I think it's great that it's different from other stuff - I can imagine it being awesome in a live set - that "Midnight Madness" vocal will blow you away on a loud loud sound system - a bit like "Push the Button" in Galvanise.

It's also just going to give such a euphoric moment when it bursts back into life after the bleepy solo. Also try to imagine how it will sit with other tracks - a breakdown to just the beats perhaps leading into Do It Again would be an awesome live experience, and for me that's where the Chems really shine, the way that tracks work side-by-side, fused together into one massive live experience. The track in isolation never amounts to the sum total of the live shows. Can't wait until Olympia!

Prolly too soon, but have there been any signs of the EBW vinyl?

I bought 8 & 9 at a UK site only few days after Tong played them from what I recall.

Hey Gillenium, I see where you are coming from and it's fair n'uff that the melody is what is bothering you about the track. No arguments from me. It would be literally insane if anyone and everyone fell in love at first listen with every single Chemical Brothers track. But anyway, I feel Csar and Martin brought up good points as well, and it sorta freaks me out to think of the possibilities of putting this song into their set somehow! Another point I'd like to add just to put out there is just for babble-sake: now that this EBW X is out in the open in light of the upcoming Best Of release - to me, EBW X is not only a nod to their outside as well as internal influences spanning their career - but EBW X is also a good summary of all these things both created and influenced that make the Chems great and got them to where they are now. Then again maybe I am reading into this too much. Which is always a possibility. :P

I do agree with you here that EBW 8 & 9 were vastly different and it's so true. Both of those songs are literally like night and day. And it was such a rare treat to be hit with the double whammy of 8 & 9 at once!

MrKite: no word yet on when EBW X is going to be released but I would guess this song will make an appearance on the upcoming Bonus disc accompanying the Best Of.

Oh sure, I'd love to hear this live, because... any chems song works live. But I think it has EBW7 syndrome for me - I'd love to hear it live, but the actual track is kinda flllaaaat.

HOLY FRONT DOORS NAMTAB!!!

Look what i missed!!! That is just the new best thing since they figured out the whole thing with sliced bread! I'm reusing my comments from the old thread.

Melted in your mind, not in your hand

That was another topper! I am really hoping Erol Alkan drops this at Fuji rock. I can just invision it now with 20,000 scream japanese kids on a saturday night.

Right when it gets to the high point I just shut my eyes and it feels like this massive explosion hitting me. It's like in the pretender video for the foo figters when they cops get blasted....but with acidy goodness!

Okay, so Yes I love it. I can understand how it can be a grower on people. Hey...The forums alive again.....and in a 'fucking animals in erics house' mode!

Hm, I must disagree and say I think this EBW is very unique. As already mentioned, this EBW has a lot of subtle nostalgic and emotional '"nods" to it. I look back at the rest of the EBW and cant find a EBW as "deep" as this one. I would compare the feeling that your supposed to get from this one similar to Star Guitar, Sunshine Underground, TPPR, The Test, Burst Generator or even Silver Drizzle (for those who find it as exhilarating as me). You might be right in the fact they might not be challenging the listener with a incredibly bizarre tune like EBW 8. But in my opinion this is The Chems at their finest.

I also want to make a prediction. I wanna say that this becomes released as a single for the new 'Best Of' release.

I haven't been hearing the song too often, but under some circumstances, this song ROCKS.

it's going to be another saturate live in a club going insane stomper - all the symphonic parts and the beautiful touch of bizarre love triange make this a superb electronic battle weapon.

there are a whole load of euphoric sounds loaded in this song again. are they going to release all the battle weapons under one set of lps also?

everybody is taking too much. after beeing on...and listen to this track, I understand the brothers. this EBW is so fuckin different to the others and so fuckin brilliant in the same way. i'm djing too since i saw them live (overflashed since this special night ;)), and i will change my style only to drop this midnight madness bomb.

this awesome shit is summerfeeling pure...sexy, controlled overloaded and banging my head off after the middle.

midnight madness, midnight madness, midnight madness, midnight madness.......didddiidddiiddidididididiidididididididiidid.

AND...i agree....midnight madness is a mixture of the brothers work so far. in the beginning i hear a bit of EBW7, then of course it is under the influence of EBW8. and all the time you can feel this chemical rush of the energy they put in their greatest songs.

LOVE IS ALL (we have the bright eyes.....)

btw: here's one of my chemical brothers' influenced mixes:
