Seemed to be about 2 minutes long, although I didn't time it...

It's seriously more a piece of art in itself than a "chemical brothers track", very strange and not exactly in the same vein as things that are on the albums.

Hey Martin, thanks for stopping by and posting this. I have some annoying questions :P And Acidchildren, you can answer too if you want! Is the song looped so it sounds like a continuous long song, or does it have a definite beginning, middle and end? Also does the song build, swell and peak or is it steady all the way through?

Hi whirlygirl,

The song doesn't really have a definitive beggining and end, and many times throughout I thought it was the end before the track was actually finished. The song is structured a little like two arched bridges with quiet either side, then a peak, then a quieter section followed by more swelling and then the end.

V. difficult to describe it, has a very industrial (in the sense of a factory rather than the music genre) / dark gothic feel.

I wouldn't fly anywhere to hear the track if I were you, stay put and wait for EBW8/Chemical6

Oh but you don't understand. I've been really bored over the last few weeks. I need to get out of this town for a few days. And lately the chems have been the most intresting thing in my life again.....oh well......I guess I'll wait till the 1st for the new track. That'll be a good week. my 21st Birthday on the 27th, new track on the 1st :D

No, I can understand - I couldn't wait for the new Fluke album (which is now available - they are using the alias 2 Bit Pie - shameless plug!) but I think that if you flew to the UK to hear The Rock Drill you would be disappointed because, as I said, it is more a piece of art then a Chemical track.

Sorry Martin. I must desagree with you.

Maybe it isn't a regular Chemical tracks but it's amazing! Kind of a "steel psychedelic" feel.

I really loved it.

What part of the tate modern is the exhibit in? Which floor, room, etc?

Cheers :D

I forget to mention! It have 5 minutes and only its beggining sounds ambient. After a while we get kicks and a cool trippin' groove rocking!

Absolutely. 8) I am itching to hear this tune. Come on, October!!

And all Chems songs are works of art to me at least. It'll be cool to hear this sort of "soundtrack" for the Rock Drill. How cool and flattering it must feel to have been approached by the Tate museum to sculpt a song in honor of a work of art. It makes me proud.

I always knew Chems had a dark ambient side to them.

Tate Modern invited The Chemical Brothers to walk around the gallery and find a work of art that would inspire them to write a track.

It was Jacob Epstein's Torso in Metal from 'The Rock Drill' that grabbed their attention. It's a menacing sculpture made out of bronze. The Chemical Brothers said that they wanted to 'capture the latent feeling of force that the figure has'. The result is their latest track, The Rock Drill.

We'd love to play you a little bit but we can't. At the moment, the only place you can hear it is at Tate Modern next to the sculpture.

From 1 October, you'll also be able to hear the track here online.
