I have seen some of his united tweets and i have felt like taking him on but judging by some of the pointless arguments i have had with friends and colleagues about this subject i didnt want to fall out with one of my heroes.
I have been uber realistic throughout and still cant get my head round how most people thought it would have been much better this season but the man was irreplaceable and won games on his own, the players were irrelevant sometimes. There have been some performances this season that have been disappointing but last night wasnt one of them, there is definitely progress being made now, just have to strengthen squad and see what happens. we have to back the clubs decision. Since Tommy Docherty got the sack in 1977 the next two managers got at least 3 seasons and fergie took nearly 5 years to win something so no point making a knee jerk reaction yet. If he gets a midfielder and a couple of younger defenders , its a good looking squad. i just think some united fans think we are entitled to success and it doesnt work like that.
the other reason i dont tweet about this is that i cant get all that into 150 characters!
Fair enough point. But I can't help thinking that MUFC should have been looking at a big name manager like:
van Gaal
Hiddink
Mourinho
Ancelotti
I have a suspicion that Mourinho was more or less told by Fergie last season at the MU v Real game that it would probably be his last season. Mourinho was ridiculously keen not to offend MU fans afterwards when he said "
independent of the decision (to send off Nani), the best team lost" . I think he thought he might be the next MU manager at that point.
I reckon united would be higher in the table (top 3) right now under any of the other names above than they are under Moyes. I'd love to have found out for real. I understand the point about patience, but if one of those bigger names was able to continue where Fergie left off (and not resort to signing the £27m donkey that is Fellaini -who Moyes feels obliged to play) things would be better now than they are. Furthermore the world has changed since Fergie took over in the 80's. The Champions League has become a bigger deal now, and not being a part of it will affect the club's ability to rebuild and attract the big names.
Moyes is an honest and decent guy, who at times this season has looked baffled at some of the results. I'm not convinced he's the right man for the job, although he does seem to know how to turn a poor/average team into a decent one (Everton). Fergie had at least won things before he arrived at OT; perhaps that earned him the right to some patience. On the continent they're not slow to change managers if they feel the need to - but that doesn't necessarily spell disaster for the club. It looks like Liverpool v City (and maybe Mourinho's Chelsea -improved since his return) for the title at the moment, it's a shame united are so far away this season.
