as part of a very productive day yesterday. my best mate and i under our 'alter:beaters' dj guise managed to secure a monthly residency at a club called vamps in woking. fuckin chuffed to bits.
its a tiny little club, it only officially hold 100 people, unofficially 130. it is split on two levels, the ground floor is the main bar area. down stairs in the cellar is the dance floor, it probably be a squeeze to fit 70 people down there. the room is painted dark blue, with only a few lights, you kind get a private yet intimate feel down there. the sound system is more enough for the tiny room. and it has a very low ceiling, in short i have been calling this club 'baby turnmills'!!! its the kinda place you could get lost if your the kinda person who likes hedonistic nights out.
i have a very good feeling about this club, the venue is perfect, the people look like the people i want to play to, people who go out for the music (which is unusual for clubs outside of city centres). they even have a night called 'brothers gonna work it out'!!!!! thats got to be a good omen.
but i need help. i need some suggestions on what to call the night. my idea of 'grime time' was frowned upon. any ideas people??

Sounds like a cool gig, sneaker! When and if (here's hopin) I ever get back to London, I want to go!
Human Traffic (yeah, not very original, but the movie rocked!)
Way Out (as in, In Sound From Way Out)
Cellar Funk (it's the name of a jazz duo, but it'd might be a decent name for a club night)
Subterranean
Mi Casa (it could be a nod to the Hacienda!)
I realize these aren't very good, I must need more caffeine. I'll try to think of some others later.

Nice! Congratulations! 8)
Probably a dumb question but do you play a lot of the Chems? Any other artists/music genres you like playing in your sets? You need a name that captures the spirit of the types of music you play. if I get an idea of that I could suggest better names!
Name suggestions:
- Leave Home (?)
- The Sushine Underground (?)
- Under the Influence (?)

@iggy
i'll probably name the night after you on the condition you will probably forget to turn up!! iguana sessions, punk underground or iggy p's smoking pipe and whiskey sessions, they have all got a ring to them!!
@whirly
if you come to london i'll take you and your geezer to turnmills, lets not mess around!! i was chatting about names tonight with my mate neil alter-ego, we just don't have a clue. it's gotta be short and clicky. the dark sessions would be cool, but we don't want to scare people off with the idea of dark music
@TheChemicalBrother
i thought cos vamps has one chems named relate night already i would not like to do the same, but 'the sunshine underground' does have a certain romance to it!!!
do i play chems music?? not a dumb question!! if i'm playing out and about (which ain't that much) no. i have played star guitar once out that is it. i come from a big group/collective of dj's all of whom would shun playing the chems (narrow minded cunts, but i love them). i have done one pure mix of chems tune that i posted on this forum back in october, i think the people liked it. on saturday i recorded the follow up mix (respect your brothers vol2 which i am listening to now!!) that i will be posting up on the forum soon. it will only be available for a very short time,. so keep them ears peeled!!
thing is i'm a house dj. and the chems are not house. the chems are out there doing there own thing. as producers doing there own individual bits of art they do it fuckin well. to me the chemical brothers are music to listen at home. they are probably the only 'band' i listen to. apart from that im just into 12" vinyl, certain producers or labels. but good music is good music full stop!!!
if anyone did want to come to my night when it starts, let us know and i will make sure your guest listed.

sneakerbeater, sounds like a plan then when we get to London (which could be eons from now) I'm sure you'll be up for it!
Still thinking of names, my husband needs to be a bit more ripped, then we'll think of some more if we don't pass out first.
crank, panic, knock knock, sneakies! sneak easy (sorry, just had to throw you alter: beater in there) hedon-eden, bag end (sorry, I'm on a Lord of the Rings kick)

hey sneaker,
sounds cool man. wokings reasonably close to wher i used to live, and isnt far to get too now.
let us know when it starts and ill try and get there if ive got any cash!!
as for names, erm - depends what sort of vibe your after really, i suppose. soulful house you want something sexy, techy-house you want something a bit dirtier. just got to make sure it keeps the townies out and the headz in!! :)

tell you guys what i've been thinking about my night. my mate neil wants to call it 'Makoosa', just a random name spotted of a tune, i know where he is coming from. i love the mystery of a forein name.. like our favorite producers are called 'pillivan and zimbardo', how did they come up with that name?? when in reallity they are paul and gary from leeds.
i do love the latino style name, when whirly said 'mi casa' that was on the right lines!! i might have to crack out a spanish dictonary!!!
i've been doing what i should do more of, practicing my mixing for the big night!! i know how i'm gonna end the night, hot chocolate - everyone's a winner. trust me, i know what i'm doing!! i might even finish my next mix with it!! thank god for radio 2, catering for my growing old needs!!!!!
