Ok, I swear I read a discussion going on somewhere bout the etchings on the new album vinyls - I can't seem to find that thread so starting a new one.

Here's what I got :

Other than the standard mike's - the exchange and xdust etchings, mine's got these :

A1/A2 - No Path/ WATN - "Making calculations to generate sensations"

B1/B2 - All Rights/ Saturate - "Lined him"

C1/C2 - DIA/ Das Spiegel - "Anyone for jerk chicken?"

D1/D2 - Salmon Dance/ Burst Gen - "Dogs on gunpowder"

E1/E2 - Modern Midnight/ Battle Scars - "It's one of those marmite tracks..."

F1/F2 - Harpoons/ Pills - "Use the little man"

So what'r your interpretations, other than the obvious ones? I'd like to hear stashman's take on the Pills.. ;)

It's one of those marmite tracks...

either you love it or hate it. thats how they advertise marmite anyway, so thats my guess.

anyone for jerk chicken is also etched into the do it again single. nice to think forum talk is etched in to chemical history.

use the little man

pills are oftern reffered to as little fellas, fellas another word for a man.

Hmmm. Marmite, ehghk (not a big marmite fan here!) Interesting take on that sneaker. So... Jerk chicken, salmon, now marmite - who's hungry?

My theory (which was posted in that monster thread you created Jack - the orig. We Are The Night Discussions) for "lined him" is it has to do with fishing. At least I think the term "lined him" it's a fishing term. Maybe a reference to salmon dance? I really don't know. stash thinks "lined him" has to do with something else entirely, but that's the way his mind works!

Yah I posted also in WATN disscussions about it. My 2LP of WATN has the first four that you mentioned. I also found on my EBW8/EBW9...

'Return of the electronie---8"' on EBW8 side and then

'Return of the electronie---9"' on EBW9 side

lined him---blind him?

Ryno - it's Return of the electronic battle weapon... 8 and the same ... 9, in full. i have 4 lps and all have the full lines.

Also it's definitely "lined" him on all rights/ saturate.

Sneaker - have they been doing these etchings from the beginning or it's a recent trend?

my do it again single's the american version and it has no funny etchings - just the regular serial no. - also it's not a heavyweight like all my other regular chems lps - it's bought from virgin megastore in nyc.

i remember nothing on my ebw 7 also - again not a heavyweight - picked up from virgin megastore, tokyo.

also i remember my come with us 2x has "serenity now" on both sides of both lps - heavyweights both.

serenity now - how apt. any direct references?

also remember the boxer 2x single (with giant, dfa version, erol alkan remix, spring, mathew johnson remix, galvanise-abe duque mix, and the song itself) has (if I remember right - will check when back home) has tippy trutone(??!!) on one lp and just tippy on the other - both sides. what the hell's that?

i agree with stash's version of lined him whirly. am sure he's bang on, no doubt.

let's hear more of what people got or different ones, and more fun interpretations.

what's on push the button 3x joslyn?

"tippy - hit factory" n..

"OUCH.. THAT'S HOT!" :D

Jack-well my EBW8/9 says that concluding....yah mines a repress/fake....or something along those lines....oh well...I still have it on vinyl I could care less (it's even the same sticker as the original press)

plus I think on most of the American Astralwerks ones there is no inscription on them at all. there is the usual ASW stuff but nothing great either then that.

WOW I never saw those 'strange' notes on the vinyl.

So for PTB:

A- Believe it or not Ed isn't at home

C- Mick Rimminston where are you now?

E- Make a Boggy fale (I'm not sure on the last word, could also be file or fake)

F- Hello mate

I have no clue what it could mean

B- Sign Please

C- Mick Rimminston where are you now?

D- Hew is still innocent

E- Make a Boggy face

F- Hello mate

Tony 'Tippy' Tarochione i found out is a sound engineer at hit factory. but i haven't heard of a chems connection yet, tho he's pretty much all over loads of their vinyls.

any nerds cracking anything?

"Dogs on gunpowder" - supposedly, if you feed a dog gunpowder or lead it will make them go crazy. can't imagine who would do such an assholish thing.

no surprise that Tom and/or Ed would be Seinfeld fans:

"Serenity Now" - there was an episode where George Costanzas father (played by Jerry Stiller) would say to himself "serenity now" every time he got stressed out, in the hopes that it would calm him down. by the end of the episode he was screaming it at the top of his lungs "serenity now!! serenity now!!". that's how i remember the episode anyway. been a while since i watched that one.

"Believe it or not Ed isn't at home" - in another episode George records a greeting for his answering machine, where he sings this:

"Believe it or not, George isn't at home.

Please leave a message at the beep.

I must be out, or I'd pick up the phone.

Where could I be?

Believe it or not, I'm not home!"

he sings it to the tune of Joey Scarburys "Believe It or Not" which was the theme song for the show "Greatest American Hero"

talk about not taking things too seriously. using some relatively limited space on a vinyl to pay homage to one of the funniest shows ever. perfect.

Yeah woohoo I got my WATN 3x 12" promo!!

but my record player needle broke so I can't listen to Burst Generator just yet.

As for Cryptic writings I got the same (off course)

I really like the sleeve(s)

The overal sleeve to shiny hands open, A/B sleeve Shiny hands, left closed right open, C/D sleeve both shiny hands open, E/F sleeve shiny hands left open right closed.

There is real effort to make those promo vinyls special. Love it!

Oh and I checked the 3x 12" Come with us promo vinyl aswell:

All sides have Mike's tm - the Exchange - Serenity now! engraved in them. And also XDUST LDJ 5 is engraved and not pressed like PTB and WATN.

And if I remember correctly, I can't listen to it because of a broken needle, this promo is still mixed.
