iguanapunk might like this one!

a new release i saw on juno records web site today, obviously a bootleg remix. there is a 1.15 audio clip on the web site. it's too short to decide whether its any good or not. i do not like the first 40 seconds with the cheesy sounding synth line. but what they done with the vocal is alright.
i might purchase it if i can find a few more records to buy

plastic fantastic have a copy of it too!! their audio samples are much better than junos. they go for the 'needle drop' samples so you get a great sence of what the track is like.

@antype, i dont think they got clear samples. the vocals pretty clean to begin with!!
i am beginging to think this remix comes for the cheese counter. i wonder what tom and ed think about these bootleg remixes of their tunes?? i think with a track like 'asleep from day' the essence of beauty has been distorted. it's not ment to be a bouncy track

I think these people should stop molesting tracks on white labels. don't even get me started with when I found a copy of the chems vs beatles track.. I was too pissed to mold the vinyl into a change bowl. I'm sure that one hey boy hey girl mix is a good white label since it seems like there is potential to switch the track but asleep from the day? those are dodgy cuts of the song, it's clearly not the vocals only since the track is cut up so much... not to mention those synths really do suck. perhaps it might be better as an entire track in good quality but not much hints towards that

I think it's only possible to extract vocals when the vocals are centered and all other samples are panned (little is enough). Luckily on most songs the vocals are indeed centered. Then it's about comparing left and right channels, if a sample is panned left, it's amplitude is higher on the left channel than the right channel. So with clever comparisons and subtractions of these two channels, it's possible to extract vocals.
It might be as simple as (both channels) - [(left channel) - (right channel)]. (left - right gives the track without vocals, so subtract it from the original... might screw up the sound levels though)
In theory, it's possible to extract other samples similarly, but you would have to know how much they are panned which isn't that easy.

Maybe ElectronicBattleWarrior can answer that? I think all the big sound editing programs (soundforge etc.) can do that. GoldWave ( www.goldwave.com ) can do it too ... it's a stereo filter function. I remember trying the function years back, didn't work very well at that time. :)

Finally someone else has heard of, and hopefully uses, goldwave. This is what I use when I need to get a clean set of vocals. Basically what the process to remove the vocals entales is knocking out the frequencies in a sample that aren't the vocals. This is done by using a special filter that get the exact frequencies of one literal sample and then knocks out those frequencies in the selected clip.
