Have you hear it ?
http://www.youtube.c...player_embedded

I'm a big Underworld fan but it's the first time I'm very disappointed. Old drum & bass with poor synth. More, the song is very cheap, I hope the better for the next album (Oblivion With Bells was great) but since I heard Scribble I'm a bit afraid...
Am I the only one to think that ?

While listening I was saying how the drums sound like High Contrast. Lo and behold, I read that High Contrast co-produced it. It definitely sounds weird but if it were a High Contrast release featuring Underworld I wouldn't find it weird.

I'm not disappointed at all. I like it. A change in style that Underworld has made quite gracefully, I think. And I wouldn't be worried. Just because there's one simplish pop tune on the album doesn't mean the whole album will be. Underworld is like the Brothers; they're both intellegent music makers. They won't just fall into cheesyness.

It would be interesting to find out what brought this collaboration together. Did Underworld contact High Contrast? The other way around? I think that if they really wanted someone from Hospital Records they would have paired up better with London Elektricity, but maybe Underworld wanted to collaborate with a younger, yet solidified, artist. Outside of Hospital I think Naibu would have worked well with Underworld since Underworld can deal with all the lead synth work and melody, whereas Naibu can work with the aesthetic and atmosphere of the track and of course the drum track.

I know Karl Hyde recently did some performances with Brian Eno and other people, maybe they want to collaborate more with others artists... (There is the track with Mark Knight too).

Nice indeed. And a free download from the UW site. Nice again.

I'm not sure what to think....it's certainly different for them but not really a different sound.

Yeah...not to keen on first listen, the video is trying to be unique, but I could have done that on Vista Movie maker, no offence...And for the record, while im slating things, the worst titled comeback album ever..Faithless "The Dance"....Wow, who came up with that!?

THe chems continue to excite, have never once teased us with quitting like Faithless, Underworld etc etc have , no, the Chems continue to focus on the music, and continue this high level of boundary pushing consitency as shown on every LP and every live performance.

Co produced by yesterdays news, High Contrast...of course I have huge respect for Lincoln Barrett and his work, but for a respectable group like Underworld, why do they feel the need to recruit a Drumb & Bass producer to recreate a standard D&B loop over their synths is beyond me...

Wow, where did all this come from, I am sorry but guess overall I am not bowled over by this, and continue to be overly impressed with the freshness of Tom & Ed's work leaving me to not care about anything else!?

It's a positive sounding and uplifting song. There is a familiarity to hearing this. It's nothing spectacular but it is Single worthy and single friendly. Not sure if I'm going to rush out and buy this but I'll give listening to their latest a shot. It'll probably play out pretty good in a live setting. Not every Underworld song can be Born Slippy or a rehash of their earlier success. I haven't followed Underworld closely at all, so I don't know if it's fair for me to compare them to the Chems - but it's obvious there are some career parallels in terms of years passed, previous successes and they have gone through some growth and change as a band as well. Underworld quitting and re-grouping is what it is and I can't fault them for it. They still are one of the legendary greats so more power to them for keeping on making music.

That's what I was trying to say before with High Contrast is they could have chosen many other artists. Not Netsky who everyone is gushing over (it's just Bachelors of Science meets Logistics) but Bungle or Danny Byrd for an over-the-top poppy sound or older liquid artists. I think Mistabishi would have been a nice dark horse pick since he seems to be at least slightly experimental. They should have given Limewax some exposure... but then again I don't think metal-influenced dark dnb is going to meld together with Underworld

I'm not knocking them, they are legends in my eyes for what they have achieved both with their LP's and live shows..however I am just not full-filled by this, mind you I have listened to Scribble only once, so could be a grower, and singles aren't always a good portrayal of how good or bad an album may be, so there is still the curiosity i suppose to see what it brings.

It's all good, Vman - I didn't think you were knocking them at all. More or less reacting to the one song which is cool.

This has a happy vibe to it--thats nice.

But I don't think I really like this. I'm interested in what the rest of their album will sound like, since this is obviously their "poppy" track. But this song relative to Alligator: well, Alligator was definitely superior.

Hmmm...

Second Toughest In The Infants is soo much better. Bruce Lee and Kittens are good, and Jumbo is epic, but overall Second Toughest is much better than Fish.

Beaucoup Fish is more a single collection, Second Thoughest more a "unit" album.
But like the Chems, all albums are very good, with them specificities

I am partial to Dubnobasswithmyheadman. I actually pulled that one off the shelf this morning to listen to on my way to work, but my husband reminded me how scratched and lovingly worn out that CD is and that it probably wouldn't play in my car stereo. It's seen us on many a trip down raver way, once upon a time.
