Well, basically, can you spot sounds that I think were put in for nostalgia from some of thier older songs in PTB. The one I've recognized is close to the end of Believe before it starts getting mixed into HTL, there's that haunting sound of "playground for a wedgless firm" that happens every other time (for lack of better words.) :x
You know, the semi-annoying synth that declines in pitch through-out almost the whole pfwf.

One thing that stuck out almost immediately: There's some twinkly sounds throughout Push the Button that remind me of the twinklies in Asleep From Day, or the twinklies at the beginning of My Elastic Eye.
And there's some crashing parts in a couple songs that remind me of the synthy crashes in Elektrobank.
I've noticed that with this record, there are sounds that feel familiar which adds to the consistency of the Chemical Brothers sound... I can feel their trademarks all over the place yet nothing sounds out-and-out recycled, if that makes any sense. It's kind of hard to explain... it all sounds quite new and fresh, then again I've just been lost in the music and haven't really picked anything apart too much just yet.

The Octave CAT sound?
(for further reference, Orange Wedge and Piku)[/i]

Is that an Octave CAT? I always thought it was the synthi?

I know that the Octave Cat is their favorite synth. And from the pics I've seen of them play live it's encased in duct-tape. I'm at a loss of what sound it is really as I haven't heard the new record yet. But I've gotten pretty good about what synths they use on certain songs and the ilk.

Care to elaborate? :) I'm always interested in what synths the Chems use on what songs and stuff - I'm a bit of a synth head myself.
All I know about PFWF is that it contains the result of an experiment where they hooked up their tv to the Synthi and messed around with the audio. I'm pretty sure it's the fx, guitary, stabby thing that sounds on and off throughout the track. I always assumed the Synthi did the resonant cutoff sweep noises as well, but obviously not. The lead from Orange Wedge is definitely not a Synthi - it wouldn't be stable enough for a solo like that! There's something similar about the sweep from PFWF and the lead from Orange Wedge - they're both pretty cutting sharp sounds. I reckon you're probably right about the Octave CAT on those.
