More sanctions and embargoes would do more harm than good. Look what they have done to Cuba... It's not right to punish the innocent and brain washed in N. Korea because their leader is a whack job - but at the same time throwing money at the problem won't do any good either because you know that money won't go to the good of the people - most of whom have fuck all to do with Kim Jong-il. The government is fat while the people are starving and it will continue to be that way and that part of the world is nearly as volatile as the Middle East. All the aid in the world won't help the people because the government is too corrupt, and it's obvious that embargoes mean very little in life lessons to a rogue state. It's a catastrophe with no easy solution. The standard of living is shameful, their infant mortality is shameful, their life expectancy is shameful. How isolationist they are is downright freaky. I think this whole pig fuck is sad, quite frankly. :(
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

According to a news report I saw last night, the nuclear warheads they have tested are two heavy to fit into the missles they have. The missles they have also do not have a long enough range yet, it will take years for them to develope them. There last test of a long range missle crashed into the sea after 42 secs.

We don't (at least I don't) know enough of the situation to make informed predictions as to what is going to happen next. But maybe we can speculate about the different possibilities.

So let me introduce the main players:

North Korea

South Korea

China

Japan

USA

Russia

UN

Now, I think it is safe to assume that all these participants are run by intelligent people. (For an example, Kim Jong-il and his administration has been able to stay in power for some time.) So all parties are able to analyse what the possible consequences or their actions might be.

Taking this to account, what could North Korea's agenda be here?

N Korea 'may be preparing second test':

SOUTH Korean authorities suspect that the communist state might be preparing a second nuclear test after unusual activities were detected in a rugged area in North Korea today, a news report said.
