copy that.
thats what i thought. or else i would not consider myself a fan of either the brothers or norMAN himself.
(PTB is def. not POP)

By minimal, he doesn't mean the genre, but more like it's a very basic production - even the full version we've heard is not quite a lush chems production. How many of us would be satisfied if all the tunes on that album were as minimal in production as Do It Again? If have nothing against the song in particular, but I really want to see a typical HUGE Chems production - full with insane emotional sonic landscapes, lush with layers, and textures - if the album was exactly like the single's production, am sure most of us would be pretty disappointed, tho we could still end up liking it. I think Slipvin's drift is quite fine and he's being pretty reasonable. We all listen to the Chems for certain common reasons, and best fuckin production duo out there is one of them.

im not entirely sure slipvin does listen to the chems tbh.
anyway i promised myself i wouldnt get suckered into another one of these debates, so jack - i hear what your saying. however i dont think the production is basic at all. or minimal. or whatever u want to call it. have you heard the bottom end on it? to make something that stripped down sound so big is quite an artform. in fact i would say it was easier to make really layered up music sound bigger.
at the end of the day its a little acid house booty tweaker. i doubt all the album will be exactly the same, and since when did any chems album have the same groove the whole way through?
but please dont gve slipvin anyform of 'reasonable' credibility. the blokes a shit stirrer with a bad attitude.
cheers

No no no, i'am the greatest fan ever! I I I I!!!! And PTB is pop. "DYOH" was pure trance, "Exit Planet Dust" was Hip-Hop, "Surrender" was Reggea, "Come With Us" was the chem's Palookaville, "Do It Again" is minimal folk music and "The Day After" is the best rock album the brothers made. I have all their singles twice to make sure I really am a fan. Nobody can beat me, nobody!

Thank you mippio.
Do It Again does not lack in production values!! Not one tiny bit. And I'm fucking-animals-in-eric's-house deaf, but I'm hearing tight, vivid and crystal clear production. ;) JacksRevenge please listen to Do It Again on good quality headphones. I don't mean this as some condscending order from the ever-present whirlygirl, I mean this as give your ears a treat. I am sure any doubts you have about production on Do It Again will change. The production is top notch. They have truly honed in on this craft and I am proud of what they do.
I better stop before I start repeating what I posted in the do it again thread.

eh?
come it at the end of this thread and really can't be arsed to read it all esp as it seems to have come from our friend slipvin.
trust me. mips and I study music production there is def nothing lacking in the chems production. quite the oppsite actuallly...they're some of the tightest, heaviest producers out there...
I've got a vague memory a while back of somebody saying there wasn't any bass in nude night??... which I think ed responed to. from a djing perspective I actually find that track hard to mix out of...like a lot of chems tracks the production is so heavy it's often quite hard to find a track that comes out of it without a drop in intensity..
rant over.

The low frequency bass is best felt when the volume is cranked. When I first heard Nude Night I wasn't listening very loud, but in my car, when I turned it up, it vibrates the seats. I was shocked the first time I heard it Loud.
You have to be careful with Nude Night because the bass creeps right up, drops and intensifies. Same with It Doesn't Matter (which more or less plummets unmercifully, mmmmm), Under The Influence (bass test, mmmmm) and Believe (which I know Tom mentioned in an interview how they got that sound.) That super thick, rich low bass can lay the smackdown on your speakers. They make my sideview and rear view mirrors in my car flutter.

Ah, the chems are pretty much the gods of sub bass frequencies.
And whirly - I've heard do it again on a very high end system - I know exactly what all goes with it, it's supertight production, and definitely not lacking - but if u analyze the mix, there are not too many frequencies or layers going into it, say compared to the high end chems songs like come with us, and a lot of stuff on ptb too. But like i've been saying, it's meant to be like that and i'm ok with it - i just hope the rest of the album gives us some of those epic produced chems stuff - 5000 drums going into the mix - since u've got those headphones on u today, try come with us - they'll tear u apart. I'm hoping they give us some of that stuff on the new album, and not all songs are produced as simplistically as do it again (which I like!).
Damn, too much confusion. Blame Slipvin. :D

Aww, the headphones went home with my brother-in-law!
I know what you mean about epic, all-engulfing layers of sound that spin you off into the universe. (a la The Reel, Surface To Air) The Chemical Brothers have given us that on every album so far, and I bet they do it again. hehe.
