The Chems aren't going to go back to Come With Us. I think if anyone is expecting them to go back to how the Chems were a year ago, 3 years ago, 10 years ago... I hate to see or read about anyone being disappointed with the Chemical Brothers... but if you go into their next album thinking they are going to relive the past, well be warned you may end up setting youself up for disappointment. They've always strung along signature sounds and formulas that define them as The Chemical Brothers but they've never truly gone back and and made another Dig Your Own Hole, Surrender , etc.. I'm not really sure why they'd want to. They've already accomplished what they wanted to accomplish, and they've proven time and time again that they like to evolve and keep things interesting.
As for Electronic Battle Weapons - I'm with you brother_ging. Of course the Battle Weapon tradition is a nice one but if they want to release pre-singles and call them Electronic Battle Weapons or use some other name (maybe make a new tradition?) then I don't care. Just keep on making music!
I also don't see a problem with the Brotherhood release. It's not useless at all if you look at it from a from a collector's perspective (the box dealie with the post cards and 2 discs is a nice thing to have), or from a new or casual fan's perspective which is what the single disc release was primarily intended for. It's been said the Brotherhood is a re-jig and update of Singles anyway. The merits of the Brotherhood album have been argued endlessly before... The bonus of having the Electronic Battle Weapons all in one place on one disc was, in my opinion, a sweet gesture of fan service. And it's also a nice collective of the Battle Weapons seeing as the set feels complete as-is with 10 (to Ed, according to what sneakerbeater posted).
It's been argued (not here, but in interviews and reviews I've read in the past) that Surrender is a concept album although Tom and Ed have stated otherwise. One of my friends says Surrender feels like a concept album to him because it illustrates perfectly (to him) the day in the life of a raver or clubber. But anyway. To the best of my knowledge the Chems have never come out and said "yeah, that's a concept album, we set into the studio with a concept in our heads and these 11 tracks are what we've come up with" or something to that effect - although how the music is perceived and interpreted by the listener is a completely different matter. ;)
