Indio sucks, hard. Boring, dismal place on your own and sober. (Quite a bit more fun wandering around with people on drugs, but most things are. :D ) But I found a really, really, really good Mexican place to eat at. One of the best meals I ever had.

I won't be able to make Coachella 2007, Chems or not. Right after exams I have two weeks of pharmacy rotation that are mandatory. Boo-urns.

And as much as I want Tom and Ed to make it back across to this side of the ocean and do a proper tour (whether live or DJ sets in proper clubs), I am kinda sick of hearing people whine about it in every thread where a new gig is announced. We all know that Tom & Ed are wanted here. They know we want them here. But it's simple logistics and cashflow. Complaining in every thread makes us all look like a bunch of prats. Nothing personal, as I've done my share of venting and pleading on this issue before, but I think the point is now made. My two cents.

Yep, Darkstar! Indio is only fun when the festival is going off! There is a reason why the city's population doubles when the festival is in town. I would bet the city more than doubles.

It is a shame that you won't be able to make it to Coachella next year even if the Chems aren't playing, but I completely understand. As cool as it is to up and travel on a whim, the reality of obligation and plain ol' responsibility has to come in eventually. As you know, as long as stash and I and Connor are alive you have a vacation home in California. :)

As much as I have done probably more than my fair share of moaning and complaining, I totally agree with you on the last point. I would have to say that out of this forum melting pot, it's the Americans that have the biggest voice when it comes to the lack of U.S. tour dates. The frustration is understood, people sympathize but the constant harping sometimes appears like people are taking it personally and that's not really fair to the band...

Hey Bosco, will you be renting a car when you come to California? Because Palm Springs is a good 25 minutes or so drive up the highway from where Coachella is. There are busses (just ask Darkstar, king of public transportation) but it is not very easy or efficient getting around if you have to rely on it. Not to mention, there's really not much to do in Palm Springs - or Indio and surrounding areas for that matter.

I originally thought at the age of 21 you couldnt rent a car (minimum age of 25), but i was mistaken. You can, with an additional underage fee. So I gotta decide if I really feel like its worth to pay an extra $25-30 a day extra on my rental car to go see stuff like Joshua National Park and or go see the Salton Sea. Otherwise if I dont get a car im sure I can hitch a ride (give some gas money) from someone at the hotel/motel that i stay at to get to the polo grounds from day to day.

whirlygirl Escribi:

Also, the Motel 6 in Indio is not really walking distance from the venue (I have a great story about the year stash and I attempted to walk to Coachella from where we were staying a couple miles from the venue - it wasn't pretty let's just say that).

what is the closest, hotel/motel (cheapest) to the polo grounds then?

whirlygirl Escribi:

You would be better off flying into San Fran, then closer to Coachella flying into Palm Springs. You'll dig San Fran, it's a great city!

my scheduling for my trip is still up in the air since i would like to visit 3 places: coachella, vegas, and then san fran.. So the schedule of the trip will be made up by the most budget friendly plan.

whirlygirl Escribi:

Hell, if we got to Coachella this year (I mean, if the Chems play of course) then we can definitely meet up and we'll cart you around in our car.

well thanks for the offer! ( hope you guys and the chems end up coming!)

It's kinda ridiculous that I keep mentioning the trip and its still 7 months away :-// , but I've got lots to plan since it will be my first really big trip, and one that I can finally afford to fund, myself.

I will send you a pm later on this evening!

are you kidding me? UK DJ's play the states with no problem all the time.....many of which will spin in the same citites a couple times a year. I don't think it is too much for me to ask the Chemical Brothers to DJ in the state of Georgia 1 time out of their 13+ year career. : )

I'm not sure they've had the best experiences the last few times they've DJed on this side of the pond (Audiotistic in LA, Central Park NYC last year [or was that a live set? I forget]), esp. not compared to the response and how they seemed to enjoy the live set at Coachella 2005.

Hauling their live set across America is prohibitively expensive though, esp. considering there's only a handful of cities that would likely have sufficient interest to support a Chems gig.

Logistic-wise, I agree a DJ tour is quite feasible, but for whatever reason they've decided not to for a few years. We know Tom and Ed read the board and I'm sure they've seen enough posts from our North American crew that they know where we stand. I would hope that Atlanta would get a DJ set if they came over, but I think you'll have to travel if you want a live set, I'm afraid.

(I'm resigned to the fact that they'll likely never come to Winnipeg, although I would love to see them rock the Tijuana Yacht Club here. Always saving, always scrimping I am.)

Option 2: You need to get to California when the Chems come back around. It would be great to have you here... and about time, too. I've practically known you since the mailing list days of yesteryear!

fun fact #2: behind perry farrell, the chems are the most repeated performers at coachella
