DAFT PUNK ANIMATED MUSICAL TO AIR AT CANNES
'Interstella 5555' Daft Punk do animation
Daft Punk?s animated musical film, ?Interstella 5555: The Story of the Secret Star System?, is set to premier at the Cannes Film Festival, May 18.
The idea for the project began during the recording of the French duo?s second album ?Discovery?, and by the summer of 2000 Thomas Bangalter, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and their pal Cdric Hervet had come up with the synopsis. They pitched the project to famous Japanese animator Leiji Matsumoto in Tokyo and he joined them, bringing along collaborator Shinji Shimizu, with whom he worked for legendary production company Toei Animation.
Work on the project eventually began in October 2000; it took almost two and a half years to complete and is directed by filmmaker Kazuhisa Takenoushi. In the movie, four musicians from another galaxy are kidnapped by an evil manager to ultimately become the biggest band on earth. At this stage rumours of a central character sporting trousers with an alarmingly high waistband remain unconfirmed.

Is there a trailer or preview of some kind for the Daft Punk movie yet? I'd be interested in seeing a trailer.
The Flaming Lips are going to release "Christmas on Mars" this coming Christmas - the story looks whacked out but I think that's the psychotic point of it all. :) Plus I think it's a riot that Blue's Clues guy (kids programming, I've seen them *all*) is in there saying "We're fucked! We are fucked!" The trailer is brilliant and even much better with headphones, I wish I could see the whole movie while wearing headphones. Even if the story line is too much to comprehend I think the music/soundtrack will make the movie more than worth the wait.
