... Definitely Under The Influence (for ultimately cool live)... TPPR really works super well. 'specially when it all goes silent..
He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

Yes it does. It goes all silent. And people think the show's over.. then the drums drop again. Happened several times at the show I was at.. longest time was 10 seconds of silence.

This is hard to say, I'm obsesed with their live sets. Under the influence is good because of the ultimate bad-ass riff that they put on this year that I think makes it better. Afrika is great when they have the congas loaded up with tons of reverb. Star Guitar gets a more blissful feel with the piano and a nicer outro. EBW 6 sounds better with the vocal sample and less emphesis on that synth that goes up a scale. Setting sun and the test are good for their different drum tracks. My Elastic Eye being all funky with old analog, and of course TPPR is just more insane live. I'd say my favorite change from album to live is under the influence. Great track to be playing while driving.

It felt like 10 seconds... my cousins claim it was more like 30 seconds and that "it was awesome".

I'm with you on this one, Star_Guitar. To be honest I wasn't really feeling the tune the first few times I heard it. I warmed up to the song and by the time I heard it live I was blown away. It was sonic jubilation, like being completely wrapped up in sound, that's how intense it felt for me. It was definitely one of the highlights from the 1 hour set.
I can't say which is the best or favorite song live though, it's all in the whole live concert experience. I've seen 2 live shows - both different in the sense that there were many many highlights - so many surprises in the build-up of songs, it was like they were dj mixing bits and pieces of every song they'd ever done in the intros and outros which I found very very clever and wonderful. Kept me on my toes because I'd hear a snippet from one song and it would turn into a completely different song than I had expected.
I have yet to hear The Private Psychadelic Reel live (besides from a bootleg) I'm pretty sure if I did, my head would explode so perhaps it's a good thing I haven't had the experience yet. lol!

chemicalreaction Escribi:
Was it in the middle of TPPR?
All over the track. ;)
I would actually agree with whirlygirl on this one... its the whole experience. I got a 2 1/2 hour set in 2002 so I really felt the whole thing. Its just really insane and the 15 minute break is definitely neccesary. (I was expecting a chiming "brothers gonna work it work it" but instead I got the crashing cymbals of my elastic eye - scary suprise!!!)
(WARNING: the following is slightly long and very boring)
Again, in agreement with whirlygirl, the cool part is the way the songs are strung together... like the CWU intro. The way the bass went mad and lines that weren't in the original started coming in I assumed that it was the live version.. but then the drums kicked in! And when Chemical Beats started to blast through the system after Music Response... and then I hear a very loud (and lone) "BLOCK ROCKIN BEATS!!", you know what came in. Then Leave Home after Block Rockin Beats... which became STTS. Under the Influence to Afrika was an obvious one. The sample just boomed in the middle of the track, over all the bass. Star guitar fades down for a couple minutes for a nice break. I make a bet with my cousin. (him: "they're GOING to play Piku" me: "Sunshine Underground, all the way!"). Hoops was unexpected and started to sound like Setting Sun. I could tell Hey Boy Hey Girl was next (chemical beats in the middle was NOT anticipated). I was pretty confident The Test was coming though. "WAH WAH WAH WAH" goes the LFO, and they're gone. Stars fly across the screen and suddenly explode in sync with each cymbal of MEE. The obvious last track, TPPR slowly comes on and doesn't want to leave. Took about 20 minutes to tame that beast. "BEEP WAAAAAHH EEEEEEEEE" for 5 minutes and then we're hit with some soothing jazz.
